You can count me in Mr. Sir's corner on Demelo.
I don't see how Matt Hunwick v2.0 will help Leafs next season. - MaximusAurelius
Demelo is still an upgrade though... |

i don't think so.
he's not a top4 guy, and we have holl/liljegren/lehtonen for the bottom pair already.
rather keep those over matt demelo. |

those guys would need to be acquired via trade... Parayko, Pesce, Ekblad would all be great additions as well.. - PatC80
it's all about asset management.
Hypothetically what's better ..
Sign AP at 8.5 and trade Willie for a young fwd with top 6 upside and some picks.
Or trade Willie for a good young established Dman and then sign a veteran mid range fwd to replace Willie.
Both options could make total sense. Only Dubas knows what options even exist.
If, hypothetically, Ekblad were available for a package centred on Willie I think that might make more sense then signing AP. I think Willies complementary offense is more easily replaced then Ekblad's elite D potential.

I'd debate whether Matt Hunwick 2.0 is better than Liljegren/Holl.. |

Hypothetically, if it came down to Pietrangelo and Ekblad, I would take Ekblad.. Younger, with a cheaper contract..
As you said, only Dubas knows what options are available

not sure I've ever watched the guy play a shift of hockey but I'm skeptical about the Demelo love.
He was kind of the Sharks Dermott for a couple of years. Then looked ok playing for the Sens I'm told. Hard to evaluate a guy playing for a team in a burn it down rebuild.
Didn't get much time to show himself with the Jets.
Smells like someone is going to get excited and overpay.
Tanev reportedly zero'ing in on the Penguins.
Buyouts open in a couple of days - interested to see who might fall into the market.

Mike, O'Rourke is a nice pick ....at 44.
I don't see Dubas picking a safe d'man over some of the high skilled/ high IQ'd forwards that are left on the board.
Jarvis and/or Bourque both scream TML. Should be lots of safe D types available at 44. |

Ekblad's hits numbers were down significantly this year (by at least half)... is he playing a bit more cautious these days?
Seems like he's been relatively injury free the past 3 seasons (I think he missed a couple games this year) so questions about his durability, I would have thought, were a thing of the past.
Still think Petro is significantly better than Ekblad right now, but AE is 7 years younger and still has time to improve. |
