Kevin Weekes saying we traded Horny to the Panthers for Mike Matheson - SuperHenderson13
Give us more specifics please. Matheson is a good D man with a cheaper salary than Hörny. |

Dont know much about him. It looks like he a LHD... so that means I think Pettersson is being shopped. You cannot have Dumo/Pettersson/Johnson/Rikkola/Matheson on the left side. Something has to give.
The thing that caught my eye more was that he is signed for $4.875M until 2026 with a Modified No Trade Clause kicking in at the end of the 2022 season. - SuperHenderson13
It’s that last part that just makes this a fireable offense imo |

Matheson is pretty good. Not a bad trade. Hopefully we're getting rid of Jacko to make this deal have any sense.
Thanks for everything Hörnqvist. You were a good Penguin. |

Rutherford sounds like the GM version of Melnyk - has no business being in this sport at that level.
It's is unimaginable that a GM could take a roster with Crosby, Malkin, and Letang, and then screw it up. He is wasting the competitive years those players have remaining. - GalacticStone
To be fair... he won 2 cups with them so he didn’t necessarily waste all of their years. Gotta give credit where it’s due. But in the last few years he’s been a gunslinger tradesman and has been slinging for dog poop. |

Dude, give it up. JJ isn't getting moved. He'll play Matheson on his off-side to play with JJ before moving him.

6 more years for Matheson, though For a guy that isn't really... good. |
|
|
|
Only other thing would be if he is planning on flipping Matheson. Matheson has not NTC/NMC currently compared to Horny's NTC.
No way you can start the season with Matheson, Johnson, and Pettersson. |

I know the cap will be flat for the next year at least, but if the cap returns to a normal inflation rate within 2 years, by the time 2026 rolls around, $4.8M wont be unreasonable.... but yea, generally not a fan of signing a guy that long, especially for a guy like Matheson who hasnt been the most reliable. |

Nah. We don't need to move them. Jacko will be out of this team somehow. |

He is, though part of his legacy here will be that he turned the roster around and won 2 Cups when many people thought they were done. |

Oh he's pretty decent. I bet he's better than Pettersson whom I think is not a true top 4 Dman. |

Johnson will be gone. Bought out, traded attached to Murray or whatever.

In fairness to Matheson, he seems like an (Correction definitely below average 2nd pairing guy. His struggles from last year were largely a result of playing hard matchup minutes. He's only 26 so maybe he can step it up heading into his prime (ala Petry) but, yeah, term. |

Just my opinion on Pettersson. He's not Top 4 ready. |

I do. I know Matheson would be a Top 4 in Detroit. He's not a bad player. We needed something done to our D core. Shake things up. Horny was a $5M+ player playing 3rd line. No speed, no hands but VERY good in front of the net. Just too much $$$ spent on him. |
|
|
|
Is Matheson better than Pettersson? Pettersson’s contract isn’t bad. IF this means Johnson is being moved soon, moving Pettersson to the 3rd pairing just solidifies the D corps so much more.
Of course this is only if Johnson is moved. |
