Okay, so YOU think he's far from trash. What else is out there for Hornqvist that didn't require retaining salary, or taking back salary/another player who isn't a fit either? That YOU specifically know was an option?

Maybe Petts gets traded now for a really really nice forward asset, so the net becomes

Matheson replaces Petts on the 2nd pair = downgrade?

New Player replaces Horn on the 3rd line = massive upgrade?

I don't care about Mathesons contract being 6 years, we all agree the window is only in the next 3 right?

Yes, in a perfect world, we trade Horn for picks, JJ with no salary retention, and Murray for a first, then we have so much capspace that Toffoli decides to sign here for a reasonable salary to "Play for a Winner" and we get everything we want

but that's not how it works

- TheGame316

Moving Pettersson and replacing him with Matheson makes this team worse defensively when they already struggled defensively. Financially there's not enough cap space to upgrade the third line enough to make up for how bad this d-core just got.

Who is this everyone? Most people were willing to move him as a cap dump if possible, but this wasn't it.

I'll speak only for myself, but if it wasn't for his cap hit, I'd have wanted to keep Hornqvist.

That seems an odd contract to pick up if you're trying to save actual money...

Maybe the "glitch" is working out the SB/Salary retentions

Absolutely (frank)ing outrageous. We’re not even saving much cap here. Just a trade for the sake of making a trade and we’re getting back yet another bottom pairing defenseman making a huge cap hit. To boot: the contract is long and a NTC kicks in next season. Hornqvist will probably provide more value on the ice next season the Matheson and they’ll probably be equally difficult to move next season unless Matheson breaks Out out of no where. Would rather just keep Hornqvist, get the last bit of hockey out of him, and deal with moving him next year than save 1 mil or so in cap for a player we don’t need at all.

I know, the point was they didn't save money in this trade and the only reason I wanted to move Hornqvist was to save money.

Matheson will be paid a total 9 million dollars per year on the last 3 years of his deal LOL

Hey Penguins fans...we might have a Milan Lucic to sell you on the cheap

I think I'm just going to wait until the next season starts to have any more reactions to trades and signings. See how the big picture looks when its finished. Its hard to think I will be happy with it but you never know. There is now definitely a LD and Murray to be traded...at least that. So we know we're definitely not done here. I just dont see how JJ goes but if he does all the other trades and signings will be better haha.

Ahh yes just wait to see how JRs master plan fully comes together lol

For a thread that seems to spend a lot of time on stats, I'm seeing very little in the way of actual analysis with evidence and a whole lotta "I know he's bad, the stats say it, the eye says it, just trust me on this"

You asked how they were going to replace Hornqvist on the 3rd line

I'm saying we have 3 months to find out

hahaha there is no plan and never was, thats why I said "Its hard to think I will be happy with it but you never know". The guy throws sh!t at walls hoping something will stick and every now and then it does, usually it doesn't.

So remember when you said you were glad they were getting rid of Gonchar so they stopped getting broken defensemen and expecting him to fix them? They didn't get the memo.

this whole glitch thing though make me wonder if GMJR pulled another Kessel to MIN deal where he didnt get Horny's permission in advance...

Goddammit.

At least Marshall seems to think he’s a legitimate hockey player but $4+ mil for a bottom pairing defenseman is a death pill even if he can hold his own on the bottom pair.

Because the return was so much better when everyone knew how boxed in we were by the player?

If GMJR has made up his mind about moving Horn, he's gonna move him

Would we rather have Victor Rask and retain salary on Horn? careful what you wish for

6,5 is his total salary (with bonuses) and not his base salary (without bonuses) then. My mistake! I was checking from the main Panthers page.

6,5 still sounds like a lot for Matheson though. Hope for the Penguins he finds his game back.

So 4th most ice time 5 on 5 for Cats this past season with a handful to 10 games less played than other D men. However, he is below 50% in HDSC%, xGF% and CF% 5 on 5 SVA.
