1) see if the kings would want marner for vilardi + moar picks/prospects.
2) sign tanev, gudas and toffoli for $13Mish.
3) Play bruins in the 1st round. still lose in 7 games. - Tumbleweed
By moving Marner, Leafs could get Vilardi, picks, prospects, Tanev, Gudas and Toffoli..
That would be a lot of depth, that is needed... Too bad we'll just lose to the Bruins again in 7 games though.. |

Lehtonen and Lillybust probably won't be commanding major salary upgrades. I'm kind of doubting Sandin will either. And it's not like the Leafs couldn't move pieces like Holl if they needed to find some salary.
Hyman... yeah, I think he's gonzo.
Re-signing Rielly will take some serious roster/contractual gymnastics.
The great thing though: cap hell awaits almost every team. - mjones242
Luckily for every team, they dont have 40 m invested in 4 forwards.
If the leafs sign AP, I dont see how they can keep Rielly when his contract is up.

People seem really butt hurt that lou won some foolish award? - Fakepartofme
Who is butt hurt? Calling out a foolish award for being foolish and the winner being a foolish choice and using the foolish award as a foolish way to try to say that a particular GM (Kyle Dubas) is foolish because he didn't win said foolish award is not necessarily butt hurtfulness being displayed.

But you said it couldn’t happen because only STL can talk to AP. You said problem is tampering, not cap circumvention.
There is nothing that prevents the Blues from giving Toronto permission to talk to one of its players. Curious to see how hard it is for you to acknowledge you’re flat out wrong. - Canada Cup
I started off with "I am not sure whether a 'sign and trade' is legal under the CBA" - and then pointing out that AP would need to negotiate with Toronto via Stl (you argued that if Stl would give permission -- it would be ok) -- and I then said that a legal agreement on a trade contingent on AP accepting a deal from Stl (actually Toronto) would probably not be possible.
the new CBA already has language on the 7 vs 8 year deals (see below) and -- and a sign-and-trade deal might be considered by the league as 'cap circumventing' (even going further than the rule below).
CBA §50.8(b)(iv) shall be amended to provide that when a Club
acquires a Player who is signed through the subsequent Trade
Deadline, it can immediately sign him to an 8-year SPC without
waiting until the subsequent Trade Deadline if otherwise
permitted to do so under Section 50.5(f).
Again, I started off with "I'm not sure whether..." |

If we sell off everything for Pietrangelo, even minor upgrades become too much and we run out of room for the contractural gymnastics ended for Rielly. We’ve always had some cap growth to help out.
Realistically, to sign AP and be able to make other adjustments and have pieces to address needs, we’re going to have to move Nylander, plus.
All that and we’re seriously constrained in going after other upgrades elsewhere- Perry, Maroon, etc. |

Have to assume that Dubas has a plan in place already if someone needs to be traded to fit Pietrangelo in. Maybe it is Andersen, Johnsson, Kerfoot and Holl

At some point in his non-Leafs career. Because this is the simulation we live in. |

This.
I can't see any other way to fit AP without severely depleting any notion of depth the Leafs currently have. |

i think nylander will need to pack his poop. if not, it would only leave us with an average of ~$2m/player for the rest of the roster.
but as much as i hate it - i think we are backed into a corner. need to move out marner's $10.9m. sucks, but it's the reality.
worst result will be if we ship out nylander this year and then realize in a year or 2 that marner still needs to be moved to add proper depth. |

See, doesn’t that feel better? Acknowledging that you were wrong in saying that the Leafs couldn’t talk to him is good for your soul. Congratulations. |
