I've heard from a good source that Pietrangelo's first choice would actually be the Islanders because he's a big fan of Long island ice tea. - Scabeh
I don't know. I heard that his boys Vincenzo, Gianluca and Massimo convinced him to sign here...
They were discussing it at the Tim Horton's on highway 7 in Woodbridge sharing a double-double. |

More like Max who thinks STL can demand anything for the rights of a sign and trade - Canada Cup
Yeah that still doesn't make sense to me.. We'll do a sign and trade if you give us a 1st rd pick?
Dubas should just say, 'meh. I'll wait until free agency and sign him then' |

The sign and trade idea would not make sense, even if Pietrangelo only wanted to play for the Leafs..
Why do the sign and trade and then hurt the team you are going to play for?
I don't see why he would want to do the Blues a favour and hurt his new team.... |

It would t make sense for a first. That idea is crazy. But if he wants 8 years and if he wants Leafs to have lower AAV, then a minimal price deal makes sense. |

Yeah moving up 11 spots in the first round would be incredible for a guy they aren't re-signing anyway.
If the Leafs do any deal like this, it will be an idiotic move.

I very much disagree.
Stl still holds the best cards to sign AP. |

not really though...
Even if they trade his rights to Arizona... If Pietrangelo wants to be a Leaf, he'll sign with them as a UFA.. The Blues don't have much leverage |

Yes they are morons.
but Lou winning makes more sense than dubi winning it for sure.
Dubi
Made a unsuccessful trade that simply back fired. Even though I still understand why it was done and I liked the trade when it occurred.
Traded out Dman Jordan Schmaltz
Acquired Campbell and Clifford - I like this trade.
Team doesnt make playoffs.
D still has holes.
Lou
Signed varlamov
Acquired JG pageau...which turned out pretty good for them in the post season
Traded for Andy Greene
Made it to the conf finals.
Not great accomplishments for either, but clearly one had a better year. - Fakepartofme
That's irrelevant, though. It's a regular season award.
It was an awful trade. Not only gave up a 1st for the bum but then immediately signed him to a 6 year contract (I thought it was only 5 but I checked. Man that's terrible.) worth $5M. They proceeded to lose 7 straight games after the trade and only made the playoffs because of Covid.
That alone makes him a shoe-in last place on the GM's list for the season.
Andy Greene for a prospect and a 2nd is like the poop cherry on top. Another awful trade.
And I don't at all think Dubas should've got any votes for him. |

I agree - but only if the 8y deal part isn't the deal breaker
(I started off saying that sign-and-trade has about 1% chance of happening) |

Of course they do if they change their mind and give him what they rejected giving him earlier. Doing a sign and trade is obviously only something they entertain if they have finally moved on. |

Might be the difference is AP staying in STL (bc of the 8y contract) or AP signing in Toronto. It's not just the 750k aav. I am not a big fan of leafs signing AP, but I don't think the 1st would be an overpayment - MaximusAurelius
Huh?
If the Leafs and AP want each other then a deal gets done. If they want an 8 yr deal then yes they have to work with the Blues. But, the Blues holding out for a 1st doesn't negate a deal it only negates an 8 yr deal. A 7 yr deal, if they wanted each other, still would make sense for both. |

If the Leafs want the cap savings of going to 8 years and the price of the sign and trade isn’t too high, there’s no reason it can’t happen |

So?
Who gives a (frank). The only card St. Louis is holding is the 8th year.
Otherwise, Pietrangelo has all the power here. |

I don't even think that is a card that can be played.
It's only beneficial to the Blues, if the Blues re-sign him |

Well I guess if Pietrangelo is talking to teams and he wants that 8th year, he could be trying to force a team like the Leafs to obtain his rights.
This is the part where I really hope Dumbass doesn't do everything imaginable to shoehorn him into the lineup.
Sell the future for a futile attempt at success now. It will be the same old Leafy strategy that never works. |
