Well I guess if Pietrangelo is talking to teams and he wants that 8th year, he could be trying to force a team like the Leafs to obtain his rights.
This is the part where I really hope Dumbass doesn't do everything imaginable to shoehorn him into the lineup.
Sell the future for a futile attempt at success now. It will be the same old Leafy strategy that never works. - Aetherial
If Pietrangelo really wants that 8th year, maybe offer the Blues a 7th rd pick |

The future is the next 5-6 years for the leafs.
We have no idea where the core will be or this team will be after that.
The future is now. |

maybe just me, but this isnt like signing clarkson to come in and be a savior.
the team is good already (dont care if people dont think they are), the team is in place, players signed...all young...adding AP doesnt mean he has to some in and be the man...just be himself and help an already good team.
now is the time to go for it....what are we waiting for? the next rebuild? |

Ok well clearly "the future" actually has no definition based on the above. |

The theory of the "8th year" isn't based on what AP wants. It's based on the New Team wanting to reduce the Cap hit. AP wants $$, terms (NMC) and structure.
He'd only care that enough $$ is added to the global value to cover that 8th year.
Blues only do this if they've determined he ain't coming back and if it is of some meaningful benefit. I'd even suggest that if they've determined he ain't coming back maybe, given the history, they'd be eager to help AP go to new team if new team was in the eastern conference (as opposed to Vegas or the AVs). That'd be beneficial to the Blues in and of itself. |

its a difference between almost 1M AVV for a sign in trade. What would you trade to get 1 M more in cap space the next 8 years+adding a top 5 D in the league?
Are the Blues interested in AJ?
AJ for Petro? Some mid picks thrown in there to even out the value.

NYI discussed a sign and trade with the Leafs but it was 24 hours before FA and it wasn't enough time.
I also think JT's decision was more wanting to go to a different team.
Petros is STL not willing to budge on his demands...meaning the team might just want to decide to get an asset back instead of letting him go for nothing.
This is a different scenario than JT. JT didnt want to play for NY. |

The future is all around us.
It is all consuming.
Yesterday? That is merely the reverse future.
Today? Current future.
Tomorrow? Actual future.

I don't think it's the last time we'll see an elite #1C wanting to get away from an orange/white/blue colour scheme team to join the Leafs |

I started this poop storm this morning by summarizing Lebruns article about JT and Stamkos. Most agreed with his thoughts ...Max expressed his opposition. |

I thought the future started 2 years ago?
So are we still in the future that started then? Or is it a new future that's presently starting?
And god.... what happens in 6 years when the future ends and there is no future?
