Any thoughts on drafting for more of a high risk/reward type player since we have decent depth at most positions?

Patrick is such a difficult contact to handle. Former #2 overall who has migraine disorder that's so severe that it effects his ability to play hockey.
He has all of the potential in the world but may never put it all together no say 1 year contract for... 1m? If that is offered to NoPa does he even have a choice? Accept it or not report to camp?
I truly hope he gets healthy and can live a normal life but the hockey fan in me hopes he comes back and elevated his game and becomes the stud we hoped he would be

That Schultz Holmgren fight was interesting. Refs much quicker to step in these days, especially when both players go to the ground. I liked Doug Crossman a lot, most fans didn't. He was not very physical, and he wore #3, I think that's why most didn't like him. Not so much recently but around that time there had been a string of defensemen to wear #3, none of them much good.

One more thing about Crossman, I remember him on the ice in Montreal during that pregame scrap wearing his shower slippers!

I think the emotional human side has to be separated from the business side. He has no leverage and I don't see the Flyers committing to more than one year. They can just qualify him and see where it goes. Whether he is capable of coming back whenever camp opens. There's going to be overreactions if he is not signed for a while.

That be a no... could’ve taken low risk high reward makar or miro but took fake migraine Patrick. Philly philosophy always take the safe bet. And lose out of course. Jagr anyone

The Patrick contract should be simple. 1 year and only give him the required minimum raise. That is it. Now if he wants to take a Sam Morin deal have at it.

Wells, who had nearly been acquired by the Flyers in exchange for Bob Froese in Nov. 1985 (an all-but-finalized deal the Flyers backed out of after defending Vezina Trophy winner Pelle Lindbergh's fatal car wreck)

Wow - all these years after this happened, and I had no idea until now that the Flyers intended to make this deal, if not for that tragedy.

On a different topic - how many ex-Flyers winning the Cup with other teams are mentioned in this article? 4 or 5 players with three different champions, if I am counting correctly. A bit depressing to read that... although I would give the Flyers a non-zero chance of succeeding the Lightning as champs next year, so there is hope.

Really see what kind of guy Stewie is by him seeing the guys get sent down when he went to the A and him not try and hang around for another year as a player taking away from a kid trying to get his career going.

That's right, the guys you thought the Flyers should have drafted instead of Patrick, just didn't say it anywhere.

My parents gave me a Jay Wells jersey for xmas when I first began following the Flyers in the late 80's. I had no idea who he was, and by the time I figured it out he was already traded to Buffalo. Rough start to my Flyers fandom. Haven't bought a jersey that had a players name on it since... haha

I would assume that happens with most draft picks. Parts of management/scouting want one player and other parts want another. This isn't ground breaking news. It also doesn't change the fact that the consensus was Nico and Patrick were going top 2.

And it wasn't even close.

Captain Hindsight trying to revise history to support his opinion is laughable at best, typical at worst.

He wasnt a slam dunk as many make it out to be if it was debated internally. Is that fair to say?

No, I don't think it is. I think they probably debate every single pick they make.

If you're unhappy with the situation surrounding Patrick, I completely understand. I am too. But don't act like you were hoping they would take this player or that player all along after they turned out to be very good players. He's full of poop.
