so they never have consensus on a pick? never all agree on any player?

Is anything wrong with that?
I would prefer them having some dissenting views in order to keep them grounded. Groupthink leads to disasters.

Also, consensus does not mean a full agreement, there is also "I am not fully on board, but I can live with that" option that contributes to consensus.

Lastly, to your knowledge, is consensus required for a draft pick decision or does majority rule?

Even if they do, there's no guarantee that player will be there when their pick comes. So I would think they discuss the possibility of taking multiple players at a particular pick.

Edit: They didn't know who NJ was going to take until they took Hischier. Maybe they had an idea, but they didn't know for sure.

Happy to have Patrick. I’m not gonna talk about him as if he’s dead. Still hoping he could push Couturier and Hayes back on the center depth chart.

All I am saying in this instance is they all didnt agree that Patrick should have went #2; despite him being ranked#2. That is all.

Kid has gone through a tremendous amount. He has shown flashes of tremendous skill. I am wary of getting my hopes up but I am not going to damn the organization or the player for something so unforeseen.

Question about scouting, for those more knowledgeable about this than me.

When players do well, a bidding war starts or is imminent for a team to get them to come and play for them. Ditto for coaches re: coaching.

But I never hear about teams wooing away scouts from other teams with greater pay etc. Maybe it happens and it is just my ignorance.

But how does a guy like Hakan Andersson manage to spend his entire career with one organization? (He is the Wings scout who drafted Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg and many other very good players in late rounds).

It does not seem to be random, or at least, the chances of it being random are not random. This one guy Hakan has had a string of hits. Similarly, Bolts have drafted Point, Johnson, Palat, Kucherov, Cirelli, Killorn, which is the entirety of their cup winning top two lines after the first round.

Bu I rarely see this issue discussed. Maybe I just don't know where to look.

I'm happy about getting Stewart on board in a player development role. The more guys like him and Laperriere we can get in the organization the better it is for the culture of the team

some of these young guys are really coachable, some of them don't listen as well. But if a guy like Stewart (because of the path he's traveled and the quality of his character) can't get through to a kid then hardly anybody could

Lmao love reading these posts by bipolar fanbase. Everyone loved Patrick pick until this year. Now people hate it and say we should have drafted x instead. Cant wait for patrick to get healthy, earn a top spot on this team and those sane ppl to jump on the patrick banwagon

it's a sad situation for Patrick

the silver lining for the Flyers is that he won't be breaking out and earning big bucks right away, which buys the Flyers some time to play out the expensive deals on guys like JVR and Voracek

if Patrick had been healthy and had a breakout season we'd be in a real cap crunch

So then. We are discussing someone’s opinion in a conversation that we have no actual knowledge of said opinion or conversation. Just the outcome. Ok.

For a second overall pick his on-ice performance hasn’t exactly been excellent. He also didn’t show any growth offensively his second year, which isn’t unusual for the average player, but it is concerning for a second overall pick imo.

Hart is a RFA after this coming season. Let's assume he has another strong season this year. What would his next contract look like? Bridge deal? Will the Flyers look to lock him up long term right off of his ELC, or is that too risky? Will Hart be looking for a mega deal right off his ELC? Being a Flyers fan, I'm not sure how these contracts typically go for young, promising tenders coming off their ELC. I would imagine a 2 or 3 year bridge. If that is the case, what type of AAV do you think that would that carry? Is anyone aware of any recent comparable players and what they signed for? Thanks.

He made the nhl at 19, his production for a 20 year old kid is dine, regardless of his draft slot. Thats not even adding having to deal with a concussion and its after affects to the the equation

This. When this pick fell in our lap, it was almost an an answer from the hockey gods. We needed a big right handed shot centerman, badly. Regardless if our scouts didn't agree on the pick, the guy in charge (Hextall) wanted Patrick. That's all that matters. I swear if we picked at #14 that year (like we were supposed to) people would still find a way to female dog about it

Patrick was #1 or #2 on just about every draft site/list that I saw and I follow a lot. There was, I believe, one that had Heiskanen at the top, Patrick second and Hischier 3rd, but that’s the only outlier that I can remember.

Could there have been one or 2 Flyers scouts that preferred Heiskanen? Probably, especially perhaps a Euro scout who saw the kid regularly and was not as familiar with Patrick. However the overall consensus of the scouts and all the draft sites was that the Flyers made the right pick.

@Bill

Any Laine rumors ? what would it take to get him in a Flyers uniform ?
Patrick + Farabee + 1st rounder?

Howabout Voracek+Ghost for Gaudreau and Lucic (50% retained by CGY)

Gotta make some space since Seattle is taking someone (JVR?) and Frost needs to be up with the big club next season.
