I definitely like Zary, and if the draft went like this for the Rangers, looking at the board, actually I'd probably advocate trading back, maybe 28th with Ottawa and pick up one of their 4 second rounders, kind of like a reverse K'Andre Miller trade when Rangers moved up in a deal with Ottawa

so pretty much 10 days to decide and make sure, no turning back - jimbro83
I think that if our front office keeps buying out or trading guys in the front half of their contracts, our status as a desired destination is going to be lost at some point.

so what do we think about Trouba
8 million a year until 2026
the contract becomes immovable on Oct 9th

I wasn't thrilled with his defense this past year. Loved the minutes he was eating and the toughness he showed. I'm leaning towards keeping him and hoping with the right partner his defense gets cleaned up a little. I think they should keep him on the PK but not on the PP. Rangers have Fox and hopefully Tony to run both units on the PP.

He's also 26 years old, still hasn't peaked. There could be a lot more there.

Yeah. I would like to keep his minutes lower and not have him on the PP though. We don't need him to be a point producer, that will be Fox and Tony's job.

I do think though, if the Rangers had known the world was going to change, and there'd be a flat cap of 81 million and nobody knows when it will go up again, and they'd known how good Fox was going to be, and how Tony D would take off, they wouldn't have given Trouba 8 million a year
nothing at all about what I think of him as a player, I think I like Trouba as much as anyone, but they better be very sure, long term, that they can handle having him as the highest paid defenseman on this team until 2026

Sure maybe in fantasy land but they can't be paying him that much to not be a points guy too.

Trouba is only 26, entering his prime years. might be a tad overpaid given his relatively low offensive output (outside of the one outlier year last season) but not a terrible deal given what else he brings to the table. maybe overpaid by like 1 - 1.5 mil
I think i'd rather have a 26 year old trouba at 8, than a 30 year old (soon to be 31) pietrangelo for whatever ridiculous deal he's about to sign.

He would be more important on the PK and his defense which this team sorely lacks. Tony and Fox are better offensively anyway. Take your fantasy land and shove it up that tunnel you call your ass.

Trouba has offensive skill though, can't just force him into a purely defensive role at 8mil.

with the Rangers, it's not a matter of either Trouba or Pieterangelo though
it's kind of a matter of is Adam Fox going to be better than Trouba, and Trouba with a NMC in 2023 when we have to pay Fox through the nose, these next 10 days are the NYR last chance to get out of this contract while they still can

Dos Fox build on his rookie campaign or turn into Brady Skjei? Trouba is a proven commodity.
