Because their current starter is Martin Jones...drops keyboard and walks away.

Jones is terrible and untradable, sure. But Dubnyk is worse than Dell, so ... still not an upgrade.

It's not just his last year either (which was awful by any standard). Dubnyk's raw save percentage figures over the previous 3-4 look pretty good but when you adjust for shot difficulty / expected goals he's actually been below average for a long time. And now he's 34.

Sure, goaltending is voodoo and there's always a chance he bounces back, but I have a bad feeling Dubnyk is going to get exposed very, very badly in San Jose.

Well, maybe operating in a tandem will prove to be beneficial for both goalies?

At least it's on the extreme cheap. Donato and Dubnyk for a 3rd and 5th? I consider that good value.

there were probably 12 options via free agency alone who were better goalies and who could have been had for the same or less money

Hmmmm. Seems Wilson is like a drowning man frantically grabbing at anything to save his life right now. There were too many long shot bets and none panned out last season. Guys who were supposed to step up never did (Labanc, Gambrell, every prospect with exception of Ferraro), guys that were supposed to rebound fell flat (Karlsson injured...again; Simek slow to recover from a destroyed knee; Vlassic...I think he's still sulking about the Olympics; Jones....the dead horse asked me to stop beating him....so nuff said)

So now DW's taking a swing for the fences with Dubnyk....good luck with that. I'd guess there's a 25% chance he makes the Sharks worse, a 70% chance we're no better than last season with Dell, a 5% chance he rebounds and carry's the Sharks to the playoffs.

I hope I'm wrong, but really expecting a rough season and a questionable future for the Sharks.

Surely a goalie like Crawford/Howard/Talbot/Miller would have been yours for the taking. One or more of these tendy's will sign for under 2M. I don't understand why teams are trading assets for mediocre goalies when this offseason will see a plethora of goalies looking for a new home.
