I imagine Maroon is leaving quite a bit of money on the table to stay in Tampa.

Re: To Ron

Hard to say with the flat cap. Can’t see a lot of teams dropping big money on older 4th liners.

TJ was never the same after the wrist injury just before the 2015 SCF. He had 14 goals going into the SCFs that year and either didn't log any or had 1 against the Hawks. It was so bad he couldn't take faceoffs. From what I read he could barely hold onto the stick with the injured hand. It's a shame. He could have been elite. Even though he wasn't scoring much anymore he always hustled and didn't hesitate to mix it up. I wish him the best in his career.

BTW, any word on what is going on with Bogo? I would rather have kept him over Schenn. Bogo was excellent in the playoffs. Solid in his own end got the puck out of the zone. Maybe they are waiting to see what Shatty does before settling with Bogo.

I bet Detroit claims Johnson. They need help up the center, have cap space, and Yzerman is familiar with him.

Maroon is a good signing.

Schenn, well, at least it's one year and cheap.

Who the F wants Tyler at that awful contract, he’s lost a step, he was like a hanger onner during The playoffs. Hasn’t had a good contract since 2015!!!!

His cap hit is 5M but his actual pay is 3.75M so that is helpful. Also you can play him for 1 year and if it doesn't work out he is a perfect candidate to work a deal with the Kraken to take him at the expansion draft.

I think he will be claimed, seems like there was a side deal with a team on his no trade list.

Sucks it ended that way but with the flat cap hard decisions need to be made.

He has not had a good season since 2015, 2015, 2015, oh and did I mention he’s lost a step?

What’s the scoop on Verhaeghe? From games I saw vs TB he seemed pretty good, but was stuck behind all of TB’s bigger guns.

Victim of too much forward depth.

Tons of energy, great hustle, good speed and a decent shot. Just never could find a regular spot on a team loaded at forward. Fell prey to the Covid cap. In an ideal world, the Lightning keep him.

At this point its going to be fascinating to see how everything plays out before January 1st not only for the Bolts but all the teams and league as a whole.

I think you've got a gem here. Maybe not to the same extent as Marchessault, but along those same lines where you're getting a better player than the counting stats in Tampa would suggest. Definitely sad that they couldn't find a way to keep him in Tampa.

So now with Johnson unclaimed... what are you guys willing to give up/take to unload his money? Its a really unique situation where he is still quite talented, but just the odd man out for your team with that cap hit.

No not quite talented. Lost a couple steps. Rotten contract. MIA in playoffs. He’s definitely not worth that kind of $$$

So how much of TJ's contract is buried when he is sent down?

Not necessarily MIA in the playoffs. Sure, his stat line wasn't overwhelming like it was in 2015, but 2015 was an entirely different set of circumstances. The Triplet line was the best line in hockey and TJ was getting top-line minutes. He was 1C and filling the role that Point did this year. He was on his way to a MVP performance before a dirty slash broke his wrist and he played the Final while hobbled.

This year, he was playing on the shutdown line. That entire line (Killorn, Cirelli, Johnson) had underwhelming stats. Their job was to go against the other team's top line and tread water so the Point-Kucherov-Palat line could feast on lesser opposition. The other lines they matched up against were largely shutdown - they smothered Boston's Perfection line.

I think Johnson has lost a step, but he's still quick. His shot has lost something, which is obvious, but also a product of reduced ice-time and playing a more two-way role.

I get it that other GM's passed on getting him for "free" - bad optics for Johnson. But, I gotta think that in a cap-world without Covid, somebody would have claimed him, even if it was a team like Ottawa trying to reach floor.

He still has some value although he's overpaid, and he's not dramatically overpaid. He could easily slot in as a 2C on some teams and 3C on most. Detroit is still putting Filppula out there for chrissakes. A Tanev just got similar money. Johnson's contract is bad, but it's not a dumpster fire.

It will be interesting to see what happens now. Maybe attaching a pick and/or prospect to the deal will sweeten it sufficiently. Worst comes to worse, the team that takes him can flip him to Seattle.

Other news - Bogosian just signed with Toronto.

Yup, not claimed that contract for a 30 year old that is now an average skater now!
