Let's face it - Laine for Barzal ain't happening.
But Laine for Pulock, in some form, is a possibility. |

I hope that the Laine for Barzal rumors are true. A complete 200', elite center for the 89th best RW is a no brainer. Keeps Perfetti in the minors for one more season while Scheiffs/Barz/Stats run the show. Jets would have 2 of the best 10 centers in the NHL. - bikeguy99
How is Laine the 89th best RW in the league? |

Even if they added I wouldn’t trade Laine for Pillock Plus. |

I believe in miracles. I have already ordered my heritage white Barzal jersey to go with my heritage Blue Connor jersey. |

Fair nuff. After watching The Hockey Guys new video on why the Jets should/shouldn’t trade Laine, I’m not as convinced.
(Unless it’s Barzal) |

Certainly there are lots of fans who agree with your take. Wonder if we'll ever find out which side was right? At least it makes it interesting and something to discuss. |

There is no debating Barzal is an amazing hockey player. All joking aside though , a trade like that makes absolutely no sense for the Jets. Sometimes I don't think Ek even gives much though to his own rumours before he creates them to boost readership.
Jets don't really need another centre now that Stastny is here , Perfetti in the wings, and Scheif is a top-notch first line NHL center. Roslovic could also surprise at C, but we are so loaded at the center that he is also on the trade block.
Barzal deserves top-line minutes. As an RFA , he would get as much AAV as Laine or more. A terrible fit for the Jets. |

People forget Shiefele didn’t play full time in the NHL until year three after being drafted Perfetti could be a few years away from being a difference maker. I disagree, I don’t think we are at all loaded at center. Stastny is old and going downhill, for one year, he will be fine. Roslovic, Copp, Harkins, Gustafson may all only be best suited for 3rd line Center. I completely agree Barzal would be a dream, but he’s absolutely needed.

People forget Scheifele still couldn't stay on his feet in the 2015 sweep against Anaheim, it took #55 quite awhile too fully arrive so we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves with Perfetti.
He could be ready this season or in a year or two so more stopgaps still might be necessary,
I'd like to see another 2/3C added if possible. |

This is a good post!
In addition, all Stanley Cup champions outside of the Blackhawks since 2005 all have had great center depth! Most of them have had a 1A, 1B situation. With Barzal we would definitely have that!

Even if it’s close to what’s being reported and the Jets add the pick or a prospect you do it.
That would be a Stella Ave. Stickup for Chevy! Robbery - Byfuglien Ate Me
Absolutely. I agree with the theory that the team receiving the best individual player is the winner (within reason). A 3-way trade may be the answer, as the Isles would still need to shed a bad contract, and neither team can facilitate that. Maybe:
Jets 2nd + Clutterbuck to (ott/NJ/Mtl)
Barzal to Wpg
Laine and Niku to Isles
Jets give up a lot, but its worth Barzal.
Isles free up cap space for Pullock and get the high-risk high-reward sniper
Cap available team receives a 3rd line player and a 2nd for their inconvenience.

I like this idea.
Also wondering if you think PK has anything left in the tank? Is there a chance he rebounds? I’m assuming you saw a good amount of him last year. |

Thinking of the Jets lines if this happens.
Connor-Barzal-Ehlers
Harkins-Scheifele-Wheeler
Copp-Stastny-Roslovic
Appleton-Lowry-Perreault
That's a great line-up! |

It is a great line up but I’d split up Ehlers and Barzal as they are both top 10 in NHL for zone entires, take advantage and have that on two separate lines.

I guess in this fantasy line-up you created you also gave the Jets a fantasy head coach.
Maurice approved line-up
Conner-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Stastny-Barzal
Copp-Lowry-Perreault
Roslovic-Thompson-Appleton

This is probably more closer to the truth than I want to admit. However after taking Ross77's input into my line-up, ideally it would look like.

No. P.K. was terrible in every zone. His days are done for sure. Doesn't seem to be working on much other then his future career in social media, and sports casting. Carrick and Mermis both were far better RD's, yet he will remain a top 4 D on the team because he's the 3rd highest paid D in the league. Maybe if he could catch a point streak, he could be traded at 50% retained...... But I doubt it |

If only this trade could happen! Another vezina-esque season out of Helle and they are cup contenders with that roster. |

I've wondered where the Jets would be or how things would of went if Connor had been taken at 16th and the Jets selected Barzal at 17th.
Also wonder if Maurice would of converted Barzal to a winger... 😂 |

Holy Crap Man! That’s a Phaneuf type of fall off. Thanks for the scouting report, no longer interested in PK even at half price. Ship him to Arizona.

I don't know Mr. Ate Me, I would be willing to take a flyer on PK. Two reasons:
1. The man has not played hockey since March 2020. Not playing must have surely given him time to heal his body. I have posted before that if it were not for the 2004-05 lost season, Selanne would never had the opportunity to heal his hurt knee, much like PK would have had now. PK has played much hockey with Nashville and due to the type of game he plays, which is very physical and I think he's probably more banged up than he lets on. Watching some of his training videos since March, it does appear that he is in great shape.
2. The man is friends with The Rock. Imagine the barn rocking out with The Rock and also PK just has that energy to get the crowd going. Going to a few games that last couple of years I have noticed that it's not as loud as it used to be.
Anyways, those are just ultimate thoughts for a Sunday night.... |
