Nice size, thick Dauphin boy on the D sounds good. He will definatley need to get paid more than the 2 mill he got last contract.

What does his next contract look like? What would be the sweetner?

- Old Flopper

I think he’d want 6 years between 6-7per. With Pionk gone and little going to LTIR, it’s doable for us.

Sweetener might be as simple as Stanley or Niku or a little bigger in Roslovic, IMO

Is still love to see Perreault and a 5th to Ottawa for a 7th.

This whole thing is far from over.

-I hope Laine stays but am not convinced at all those conversations are done. Somethings up in Columbus???

-with Peitro and Vegas looking more likely, Schmidt is on the way out

-NYI and Tampa still in cap trouble with a ton of RFA’s to sort out

I don't think Niku, Heinola and Samberg need more seasoning. They need to play at the NHL level with decent partner, not Bitetto, Dahlstrom and Sbiza. Let them make rookie mistakes, learn from them and don't bench or sit them out if they make one. Those young players are better options than resigned Beauleu and Sbiza which were in the lineup last year when the defense was horrible. Also having a decent defensive system should be an important priority. Maurices love for older players that are good in the room has stifled the development of so many young draft and develop players.

...and Carolina will be in serious cap trouble next year with both Svechnikov and Hamilton needing to be signed.

I want to keep Laine, but I don’t think this is done, or he’s off the market.

I think Chevy told the Flyers what it would take and he isn’t budging. If I had to guess what that was Chevy was asking for, I’d say Sanheim, Patrick and a first rounder (although I personally would prefer Konectny over the first rounder)

Now that Tyler Johnson has cleared waivers it really demonstrates what type of cap hell TB is still in. They will have to eat some salary on TJ to trade him since absolutely no one wants him at $5MM for 4 more years. Then they still have Sergachev and Cirelli to deal with. Good thing they won the Cup because now it's going to get painful.

TB has McDonaugh and Hedman on the left side, they just have to put a for sale sign on Sergachev and trade Killorn and all their problems are solved. And I'm sure you will tell us how smart Chevy was not to be the highest bidder trading for Sergachev.

Why wouldn't Philly accept that offer? It's basically a Sanheim plus potential for Laine

Someone in the comments on an athletic article suggested with islanders cap issues and Pulock being an RFA we offer up Pionk for Pulock. We’d have to add a sweetener but Lou should be tempted by this and no way they sign Pulock for the 3 million Pionk is making and getting Barzal signed is the priority there.

I would love this move!!!!

- Ross77

I didn't read the full article but I don't like this move. I really like Pulock and he would be a great add. But trading our second best defenseman to acquire a player who would become our second best defenseman makes no sense. We need to trade from a position of strength (wingers), hence one of the main reasons Laine and Ehlers have been rumored to be available. If Laine is "too rich" for some teams to swallow, perhaps the Jets package Roslovic or Veselainen to acquire the defensive help needed. (?)

Philly would be insane not to make that trade, a 2nd pair dman, a later 1st round pick and a guy that might never play again for Laine is really not much for Laine.
I really wouldn't like that for the Jets, I'd rather sign someone like Forbort then sell Laine for an average LHD and Patrick is just way too risky to be a main piece in a Laine trade.

You are right, And I agree with you. I’m just guessing, maybe Chevy is insisting on Konectny? Or other pieces? Who knows??

I think Pulock is better than Morrisey, and instantly provides exactly what we need on top PP. I’d love to get him and lock him up.

Morrisey-Pulock
Is a top pair I’d love to see for years to come. Then;
Samberg/Heinola - Demelo
Samberg/Heinola - Poolman/niku

Is fine by me,
Beaulieu and Sbisa should only be injury fill ins after Poolman/Niku

I agree!! Just guessing at Chevy’s ask. I do think we are forgetting as worried as we are about looking like idiots if Laine goes on to score 500 more goals, the Flyers don’t want to see Patrick come back 100% healthy and become that legit 1-2 center for someone else for the next 10 years. That’s not a good look for them.

Patrick is a 2C all day every day, he isn't on Laine's level though imo.

I just don't see a Laine trade in the cards now that Stastny is here. Let's talk at the trade deadline if the Jets don't have a good season ( although I see us making the playoffs as this roster now stands).

Barrie signed in Edmonton for one year at $3.75M, I have no idea if Chevy inquired on him (though I highly doubt he did!) but man oh man would he of been a nice addition for that price or a bit more, he could've quarterbacked the powerplay so much better then Pionk can and this team is extremely reliant on its powerplay.

It’s been reported he turned down more money elsewhere to go play in Edmonton. For what it’s worth

Yeah I know the suggested deal wasn't one for one but Sanheim is really just a 2nd pair LHD and that 1st round pick would likely be 20th overall or later, that's really underwhelming for Laine.
I'd rather keep Laine and let him walk as a UFA then trade him for that.

Interesting, too bad, he isn't the best defensively but damn he'd make the Jets powerplay way better.

Jets signed Nate Thompson, one year for $750K

Solid signing, good 4th line center, big body and has played a lot of playoff hockey.

Pulock is great. Better than Morrissey? mmm . . . maybe? They are very different defenders. But I agree, they'd be an excellent pairing! I'd love the Jets to add him. And ALL the defense pairings you mention look great . . . . BUT in a year or 2 when Samberg & Heinola have taken the time to develop properly and not be asked to do too much too soon.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to express more is that the price to acquire Pulock, or any quality defender, should not be at too great an expense of where we are already weak positionally.

Maybe the Isles would like to see what the speedy Ehlers can do alongside Barzal. (?) Both sides include some (expiring) contracts that help to balance the books, as well as the requisite draft picks to make each side feel good . . . and voila!

Do I like Pionk more than Ehlers . . . No. But I like a balance lineup that is competitive and deep at every position better.

I’m not trading Ehlers.
