Jets signed Nate Thompson, one year for $750K

Solid signing, good 4th line center, big body and has played a lot of playoff hockey.

Good signing but unless Maurice addresses the following it won't make a difference who they sign;
Lack of a any defensive system
Proper line combinations, play skilled players together not 2 skilled with one dump and chase player or 1 skilled with 2 dump and chase forwards
Proper/any fore-checking system
Hit opponents in the Jets own zone and stop stick checking
Better special teams. The power play is predictable and panics when pressured. The penalty killing sits in a tight box which allows teams to move the puck around until they get a dangerous shot.
Stop signing/playing players that are useless but are there because they're good in the room, Sbiza.
Let the draft and develop kids have a chance to play without fear that 1 mistake and they will be benched or relegated to the press box.
All this are items that Maurice hasn't addressed in the past but need to be done this season.

I love this move because it solidifies what I thought might be Chevy's plan, which was to create a team filled with mediocre veterans that Maurice loves and when the Jets miss the playoffs he can fire him.

He's actually a good veteran, signing Thompson last year rather then Letestu and Bourque would of made a bigger difference then most realize.

Would really like to see Mikael Granlund signed though, building some depth and a 3rd line that isn't an offensive black hole would be huge.

Sure, He also pushes Appleton or Harkins to the press box.

Now Chevy just has to find 1 LD, and everybody can give up their dreams that Heinola and Samberg are playing for the Jets this year.

I think a signing like Nate Thompson shows that they are committed that Jansen Harkins has made the team. He will at most be a depth forward sitting in the press box. Let Gus and Vess get maximum minutes together on the Moose as their top line. The most Nate will get for playing time is if he replaced Cameron Schillings role on the Moose which was for a depth call up and to provide veteran leadership to the prospects coming up.

The bottom 6 is:

Copp/Lowry/Appleton
Harkins/Roslovic/Perrault

Nate plays Center/Left Wing so I don't think he's taking anyone's job unless it's Perrault who is bound to get hurt within the first 2 weeks of the season starting.

Well the Jets have a coach that will not give up on Lowry at 3C so having a veteran who can center a 4th line that the coach will trust isn't the worst thing plus Maurice obviously like Harkins, I see a Harkins-Thompson-Appleton line in the future.

I won't be surprised if Heinola stays in Finland for the year anyway, he'll get a lot of ice time there and Samberg seems to have been promised a spot and Maurice isnt going to play two rookies on D so with everything out whack it just makes sense really to leave Heinola in Finland, I kinda think Chevy is done with the defense now.

I am more surprised with Chevy finding someone else's number that wasn't already in his phone.

If Vegas wins the cup, Chevy should get an honorary Stanley Cup ring. He helped them get Lehner and once they sign either Pietrangelo or Hall today, he will be responsible for that too.

The Jets now have a 3C and 4C who scored 4 goals each last year. Aren't you the one who keeps harping on how the Jets need more depth scoring?

And you forgot about Perreault again or is Roslovic the one you putting in the press box.

Yeah I am that guy but I know this coach won't give up on Lowry so need a 4th line that's better then what we have, I'm not saying that I really like this but knowing Maurice's tendencies and compared to Letestu and Bourque signings of the past Thompson is an improvement.

I think the lines will be Copp-Lowry-Roslovic
and Harkins-Thompson-Appleton, might not start that way but I think that's where it ends up, also won't be surprised if Roslovic is traded at some point between now and midway through the next season.

Like I said I'd like to see Granlund signed and an offensive 3rd line built (thats still good defensively) but I know that won't happen.

Lowry is the most overrated and overhyped Jet in 2.0 history. But since he's only played for one team he must be amazing!

The 2015 line should be reunited with Lowry, Copp and Perreault on a line together. Why put a skilled Roslovic with dump and chase Copp and Lowry?

I'd prefer the 2015 line back together but the 4th line doesn't really matter, they only get 6 mins a game. Thompson was brought in to kill penalties and win some faceoffs which is what Maurice wants.

I think it was to appease Roslovic with more ice time, I agree that the 2015 line should be reunited but Maurice won't do that.

I am just hoping that the company man does not read my posts.

Even though I speak the truth, his propaganda has a way of making me sound negative.

Does the 41 represent ties or overtime losses?

If you combine losses with overtime losses, you get a sub 500 coach.

Also Google most losses by a coach in NHL history. The result may surprise you!

I've got Maurice with 272-190-54 regular season record.
I've also got him with a 12-19 playoff record, zero division titles and zero trips to the stanley cup with the Jets. But maybe those other numbers don't matter.
