looks good on paper for Blue Jackets...until Domi starts to lose interest.....as he did in Montreal...Anderson is the real deal..the Habs need the big forward..they may have overpaid with a 3rd rounder but the Jackets had a deal with the Oilers so the Habs needed to overpay...long term...Habs win...they just got a nasty RW that is not so available in the league....

Bottom line, the emergence of KK and Suzuki meant that the Canadiens had (for the first time in decades) an over abundance of centres. Bergevin turned around and traded the one who didn’t fit in to finally get a power forward for his team. Yes, the extension is long and is a gamble but Bergevin has decided that the Canadiens tag line should not be the future is bright anymore, the future is now.

As for Domi, I loved him as a player but compare him to the other top 3 centres in Montreal and well, he’s not as complete. He can be an offensive dynamo, but he can also moan and complain when things aren’t going his way. I hope it goes well for him in Columbus, I really do, but if it gets rough and Torts gets on his case, come back to me about how Columbus won this trade. Or if he walks as a UFA in two years... Kind of early to crown a winner without taking a look at all the factors.

That anderson contract is Clarkson 2.0. Advantage Columbus here unfortunately

I see the Habs fans have weighed in

Listening to you guys attempt to rationalize this absurd trade, and even more absurd extension, is hysterical

I get the impression Domi isn't liked for whatever reason on the teams he's played for. Seems like 2 teams now just wanted him gone.

I can see why he isn't liked, I met him at the Canadiens blood drive last November at the Bell Center. Even though we conversed for less than a minute he seemed like an arrogant ass

Compared to Tatar, Suzuki, Drouin, Armia, etc I really wasn't a fan of him. I also found Kotkaniemi annoying

People should also stop referring to this trade as a "3rd round pick"

Columbus chose Samuel Knazko with it and he doesn't exactly have the most promising stats so I highly doubt it's a huge factor in this trade

If Anderson stays healthy this is a far better move for Montreal. Columbus had a great bubble playoff run, does Domi fit into this team?

Horrible signing by bergevin.

Crazy term AND salary for a mediocre player.

Bonne chance!

Habs needed to go for it I will reserve my judgment until end of next season, outside of the slight overpayment in cash and term they did well landing a true power forward

I never liked Domi, and Anderson is exactly what Habs needed. Habs are set at C as well, Domi was expendable.
Nothing to dislike here from a Habs perspective.

Anderson is a much more valuable player than Domi to the TEAM. As MB said there are very few players in the NHL that have Anderson’s size, speed, skill and yes truculence. As I remember Lucic was an unstoppable force in Boston and a major reason they won the cup. Anderson has already proved himself in the playoffs. And he’s only 26. This contract is a reasonable cap hit for the best years of his career.

Time will tell.

I think this was a fairly even trade, filling in places both teams desperately needed to address... I don't have an issue with Anderson $$, but 7 years might be a few years too much. Then again, his salary is locked down and Domi is a UFA in a few years, so let's see how this all plays out.

I will say, if the Habs do not improve significantly overall (with this trade and other moves they have / will make), then this is a wasted trade.

Never cared for Domi much.
CBJ needed offence injected. Jury is out.
Big contract & risk for the Habs.
Filled a big size need but shoulder injuries can haunt a player for a long time.

Not a fan of either teams, but I think Anderson is the better player.

The answer is obvious.

IF Anderson stays healthy and returns to form from a couple years ago. The Habs win this trade.

Domi will do great in CBJ, for a season. Then he will fade away again.

Torts and Domi in the same dressing room ... this will get interesting.
