Koivu is probably penciled in at 3C letting Boone go back to LW. Koivu and Nash are also movable and can flip flop in the bottom 6.

Put these moves along with what we did at the draft, and calling it "head scratching" is putting it mildly !!!
The response to almost all of these moves (except Anderson->Domi), return for Murray and Nuti, etc. is a big WTF !!
There was so much pre-draft talk from Jarmo about being active in improving the offense . . . want to add a top-6 winger, then he amassed a pile of cap-space, I expected more.
His explanation now is the cap space is in case someone offer-sheets PLD. HAH!! He has enough space for that, plus a jolt to our offense.
Maybe he's sitting on a big trade. Now that Hall has signed the log-jam of trailing signings & trades should break free.
Seeing how most of the other Metro teams have added pieces to improve, unless one, or more, of Texier, Foudy, Bemstrom take a huge step forward (which I doubt) we're looking up at them.

I mean the Koivu signing does free up Boone to play on the wing again. It is an offensive improvement, and yeah one that in a financial vacuum I would consider pretty smart, but he definitely didn't need to offload so much..

Why anyone thought more injured the not Milurray was going to get much in return is beyond me . Don’t dare try to put Domi on the wing . He is here because Montreal wanted to and wanted no part of it .

What would it take to pry Texier and or Foudy from the Jackets?

Is it safe to assume Kekaleinen is getting all funky now that Zito is gone?

In the great scheme of things, Nutivaara was a scratch more often this year, Murray is just injury riddle so the impact it will have on are defense will not be noticeable. At some point in a flat cap era you can't run with 9 NHL ready defenseman on a team, besides I think Peeke is ready for primetime. The giveaways was to clear immediate cap space, granted the return of Pu and a 5th is questionable, but from a team perspective, it's barely a scratch on the surface.

And I disagree,

-Islanders have the same team to date(bearing a drastic change in the coming days)
- Pittsburgh, for all of Rutherford's theatrics are they really that much better off, I thought his moves were very lateral. Although I'll admit , Janikowski might be sneaky good.
-Carolina needs a goaltending aside from that...same team
-Rangers have the big fish with Lafreniere and better goaltending so they might realistically make a push.
-Capitals, are Hank and Samsonov really better then Holtby, they still have the same team aside from goaltending.
-Flyers, same team to date
-Devils, yeah they are getting guys , but is Crawford that much of a change from Schneider, Murray is solid but he's not that PP QB we were all hoping for, Johanson is a good defensive forward but he's on the devils second line by default which shows the lack of depth.

So yeah aside from the Rangers, it's rather status quo......bearing any major changes via FA.

It's also perfectly possible that we do actually have an internal cap provided we couldn't get one of the two big fish

Fair enough and every team board on HB feels the same way about their own players. If the Jackets would fail in acquiring a UFA top 6 forward the Flames /Jackets might match up.
If there is a hockey trade out there Gaudreau or Monahan both top 6 forwards could be available.

I feel myself pretty objective. While I don't necessarily think either of those two players are gonna be better than the ones you mentioned, they're also extremely young and promising. Not only that, the two you mentioned are gonna be gone the first chance they get, while the two we have are gonna be joined with us at the hip for a while

Assuming dubois signs for 6 million and Gavrikov I have him penciled a 2.7 (similar to Nuutivara) then yeah we're in the 70-72 million zone.

For me, I want Monahan - you'd only get one of them, or Bemstrom, + a B-level prospect + a 2022 3rd rnd pick.;

Alternatively - Bemstrom + Korpisalo + 2022 3rd rnd pick for Monahan.

Sorry - I forgot you guys got Markstrom !!
Not sure what my offer would be now. Jarmo pissed away some of our D-men trade chips.

I doubt Dubois is signing for 6 million. Look at the Matthews, Laine, Tkachuk contracts for a comparable. 1,2,3,6 in the same draft. Hell Keller the 7th pick is making 7.15.

Still hoping Jarmo will get a top line or at least a top 6 LW. Otherwise not seeing a significant upgrade in the team.

Johnny Gaudreau?
Really like Bemstrom, Foudy, Texier, Gavrikov but I dont think one of them straight up gets it done.

I wish we would've traded for Monahan instead of Domi. I think Monahan would fit our need better than Domi.

With Gaudreau we're re-living the Panarin Conundrum. But that might be a necessary evil to stay competetive in the Metro.

-Hoffman,
-Dadonov,
I would say Duclair but Torts did a good job alienating him.
- I would take a chance on Granlund
-Maybe we get Athanasiou for cheap, he can be a top six if he finds his game
