Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought Toews was fairly solid in the playoffs. Pretty much all of the D was. A couple of players, Toews included, had a rough game here or there. Toews got into some trouble when he tried too hard to push the offense, and he paid for a couple of those mistakes. Other guys maybe got bailed out when they made mistakes so it's easier to forget. But in his own zone, Toews, like always, moved the puck out of trouble well, and that's something we maybe take for granted with him sometimes.

Honestly, if I had to lose one of the top-4 d-men, it'd be Mayfield rather than Toews. I think Mayfield's solid, too, and a bit of a bruiser, which every D-core needs. But his mistakes come in his own end when he can't skate it out of trouble or clear it and he turns the puck over, and I think that's more dangerous. And offensively, I like that he just shoots it whenever he can, but, really, if there's only one skate in between him and the net, it's guaranteed he's hitting it.

But, reality is what it is. Toews was up for a contract and Mayfield's signed to an affordable one. I can't blame Lou for having to make a tough decision, but I also wouldn't say it's no big deal when you're one of the older teams in the league, you're still saddled with the same bad contracts you were yesterday, and you have to part with a top-4 26-year-old d-man who plays solid hockey. We accept it because of the cap situation, but there's no doubt in my mind it's a better D-core with Toews and Dobson in there next season and beyond. I just hope it's worth it and Lou makes the most out of the saved money and the draft picks.

I don’t think it’s a big deal because Dobson will be stepping in for him. Dobson is going to be a stud. In a perfect world like you said lose Mayfield but that wasn’t happening because he is cheap for now

I think Barry is high on Mayfield’s game. He typically had the top TOI after Pelech and Pulock and sometimes more than either in the PO’s. I thought he has improved his game as have most in Barry's d first system.
Dobson puts some muscle on his frame this off season he will be awesome imho.

Toews was a nice guy back there but if your gonna trade someone from the team it has to be from the d corps. It was our strength and who knows what his agent asked Lou for interms of a contract. I like Leddy better than Toews and if we were going to lose a d man I fine with it being him.
