I'm not a big fan of Laine myself...we have to take into consideration Rust and Dumoulin will command a big raise though. Maybe 10-11 million both players?

Anyway, I'm torn on this trade "proposal"

- Barnaby36

They absolutely WILL command bigger numbers, but Rust is signed for this season and next, and Dumo for three more seasons, so that's a ways away and at a point where the window is closed shut, so what does that have to with right now?

F off haha I wasn't aware of the length of their deals. I honestly thought they had like 1-2 years left.
Would you be fine with Granlund and Koekkoek for cheap? They would be my version of Wennberg and Schmidt lol

I'd be fine with Granlund, but why Keokkoek? He's a lefty, no?

Guys, Laine is still on the block... he is going to get traded. He will be a Penguin.

Laine for Dumo, Rust and a pick. Leaves the Pens with $3M to bolster the blueline and some good players are still out there.

Also worth noting that there is a possibility Chara leaves Boston...

pretty confident there, Mac Daddy.

Not enough money for both. Gotta be one or the other. Granlund I could see GMJR signing if the price drops enough.

I wouldn't do that deal for Laine. I could see Sully putting him on 4th line and then on up to the team box spectating ala Sprong treatment....all for Rust and Dumo to be gone haha

I don't understand Koekkoek though. He's a lefty. Am I mistaken about that or is he a lefty who plays the right side?

Ive seen others mention he's a lefty that plays the right side or has played the right side effectively. I believe Tojo said he was RD on the 3rd pair for the Hawks these past playoffs.

There are only two times I’ve really paid attention to Koekkoek. 2016 during the first Sully Cup run his rookie season. I notified him because the Lightning used 7D to get him in which I always think is a weird strategy, especially for them since they’ve always been stacked at forward, and I thought his name was awesome. If I remember correctly he was an RD then. The second time was this year because he was playing with Maatta in the playoffs, so he was definitely an RD. That pairing did really well.

Ok, gotcha. I admittedly don't know much about him. Like you, I remember him from the CF against Tampa, but I didn't pay attention what side he played. I just saw him listed as a left-handed player.

I'm curious to see his fancies. I don't think the Pens are adding any more forwards at this point, but I can see him adding an RD and right now the list of remaining UFA RD's is short and not much quality.

Laine is a RFA next season, for all anyone knows, if he really has effort/attitude issues, hell probably hold out for 10-11 himself!

My good friend Oprah told me about this book called "The Secret" and it says if you ask for stuff enough it will happen or some poop like that.

Here are my thoughts on Laine:

1. Elite offensive talent. He is basically a super Kessel where he has a way better shot and has really sneaky good passing ability.

2. Winnipeg is a poopty city that no one wants to play in. Likely part of him seeming disgruntled.

3. What they have done with his deployment reminds me of what happened to Ovie for that one year where the coach just harped on his defensive play cut his ice time and his season and the team ended up sucking that year.

Laine is 22 and has an elite skill set. If you are worried about his defensive play, put him out there with Sid and Zucker who can cover that up while he scores 40+ goals.

I really like Dumo and Rust but I believe they are both due for regression. Laine is still years away from his physical prime.

Super Kessel? I am a kessel hater, and ill be the first to defend him to this ridiculous statement.

Laine 17-20

https://www.naturalstattr...ines=single&draftteam=ALL

5v5 CF% - 47.37, GF% - 51.34, xGF% - 44.29 P/60 - 1.79

He's (-) in all relative stats categories...

Hes has an elite offensive touch, overall he is a bad player.

But sure lets give Sid and Zuck do more defensive responsibilites, so selfish Laine, can be a "super Kessel". Great strategy.

Rust 17-20

5v5 CF% - 52.53, GF% - 55.14, xGF% - 53.43 P/60 - 1.9

All positive relative stats...on a better team.

Laine has never scored on a PPG pace, Rust did this year.

Laine has always gotten PP1 time, Rust got small amounts this year alone, and he PK's well.

The 2018 (114 standings points) and 2019 (99 standings points) Jets teams were pretty strong.

The top 6 is fine right now. Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, Rust, Kapanen is a good group of players. It’s this 3rd line that JR tried to fix with elmers glue and scotch tape that will be the problem. It’s why I was hoping for guys like Fast, Ryan, or even Craig Smith at his price. I’d still like to see Athanasiou on the 3rd line with McCann. JR is going to have to make a trade after more FAs sign because there’s no way anyone thinks a 3rd line of McCann-Jankowski-Rodrigues is a competent 3rd line.

Look at Kessel stats when he was Laines age or last year. I like Kessel, I just think looks to be a bit better. Would you prefer I call him a not quite Ovie?

Laine hasn't had a chance to play with an Elite center. Crosby has never had the chance to play with an elite shooter. Match made in heaven there...
