Net gain is not worth the albatross contract. This will be a buyout in 3 years.

I think 3 years is pretty pessimistic. I could see it being something more like in 5 years of his contract.

I do think that it isn't the greatest upgrade considering the loss of Schmidt and the additional salary. I think it would have been better if they held of resigning Lehner until the AP deal was done. It might have made it easier to move someone like Fleury and then sign a goalie like Lehner and possibly keep the D the same with the addition of AP.

Essentially you traded Schmidt and a 3rd for Piett. I know he was a free agent, but the reality is that you were forced to sell Schmidt for pennies on the dollar. Obviously his NMC limited their options to just Vancouver as trading partner.

Your D core is better today then it was last week. The last 3-4 years of that deal are concerning tho. He is a great player, but will he be a valuable player from age 34-37????

I'm not in love with the term obviously. In the last few years of the contract it will look horrific but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. If he helps bring a cup to VGK it'll be worth the headache though.

I believe they traded Schmidt and a 5.9mil cap hit for AP AND a 3rd with a 8.8 cap hit. They didn't lose a 3rd but gain one.

Not only that but you improve an in division rival without proper asset return. Amazing.

This move helps Knights in the pursuit to hoist a cup over the next few season, but in after 3-4 years, this contract is going be very painful(see Seabrook, Brent).

Correct. Are Vegas fans happy with these moves? Statsny was a solid C, and Schmidt was a fantastic D for this team. I am sure Piett is an improvement, but for how many years can he maintain this level of play. Don't expect to see Dahlstrom on your roster. The guy can't skate. Who is going to jump to centre in Statsny's absence. The middle shaping up to be Karlson, Smith, Stephenson, Glass?
