Firing or reducing everyone else's salary.

If he pulls everything off with a new arena and opens the purse strings to compete for a cup in a few years I'd be satisfied.

If the Sens are breaking even with just 6,000 fans attending games then either the COVID-19 era tickets will be absurdly priced or Eugene has been crying poor and poor fan support for little to no reason for years. Neither makes a ton of sense really.

I like the confidence in the team, finances, etc. but eventually he will have to actually put the money where his mouth is. The rebuild is very convenient timing to shed payroll and plan for future seasons. He could have had a plan in place for a new arena already, but crapped on that more than once. Until we see some commitment that isn't salary cap floor related, I still very much doubt this team will achieve long term success under his ownership

Agreed. It's really a question of execution at this stage. The talk and plans sound excellent - if they become a reality, fantastic! Now let's see some concrete steps towards that reality.

He’s not a name that’s ever going to bring the same level of excitement as a Josh Norris, or a Drake Batherson, or Tim Stutzle,

Lots of love for Norris.

I got caught down a Youtube rabbit hole watching his highlights last weekend, so my perspective might be a little biased right now...

I was surprised with his name being mentioned with the likes of Stutzle and Batherson. My perspective might be biased too because I saw him play about 25 times last year.

F*** melnyk lol. He says within 4 years, what an idiot.

He always says that sh*t when the team is going through a rebuild.

This is what the Sens had in summer of 2013:

25 years old - G Ben Bishop
24 years old - F Guillaume Latendresse, F Zack Smith
23 years old - F Kyle Turris, D Mark Borowiecki
22 years old - F Mike Hoffman, D Erik Karlsson
21 years old - G Robin Lehner, D Jared Cowen, F Jacob Silfverberg
20 years old - F Mark Stone
19 years old - F Mika Zibanejad, F Jean-Gabriel Pageau, D Cody Ceci

Yes we are headed in the right direction but winning a cup in 4 years? Just shut you mouth you p.o.s and pay when the time comes

I guess we go to different games, Nick Paul has turned the corner, he is a very good player who should excell this year if given a real opportunity.

If the Sens finally get a downtown arena, expect a lot more visiting fans (good news for Melnyk, maybe not so much for Senators fans).

Ottawa is a fun weekend trip, but good lord, the trip to the Corel Centre* is a hassle.

Granted he has improved but saying "very good player" i think is too much. He had 9 goals and 20 points and was drafted over 7 years ago. I don't say this to say he isn't useful and can have a good year, but we should reserve that type of praise for a guy like Tkachuk or even Connor Brown who finished 2nd in team scoring. Paul was tied for 10th

Tim Stutzle - Josh Norris - Colin White
Nick Paul - Logan Brown - Drake Batherson
(AHL best line)

I'm still pissed sens took SANDERSON at #5. What happend with stutzle was unfortunate and we are extremely lucky it will not impact his career. If he was long term with our 3 picks it would feel that were back at square 1 without any new addition that can help immediately. I'm 100% sure if Detroit didnt take lucas raymond dorion was going to take him. If only wings took someone else we would have had stutzle and raymond. (frank)! With perfetti and rossi left going 9 and 10 geezz at least u would have another talented forward if stutzle was out long term. Sens still have alot of work to do and they kinda blew this draft imo. 😡😡😡😡

I still call it that too, I have no idea who sponsors it anymore from year to year.

"very good" is a relative term....it doesn't only have to be about points. Paul might not put up the big point totals, but he does a lot of things really well.

the fact that Perfetti and Rossi went 9 and 10, and were passed over by several teams, should tell you something.....no?

you don't know what will happen, Sanderson could end up being the most dominant player to come out of this draft for all you know. Rossi and Perfetti could just be another strome brother........2nd/3rd line player

i don't think he was every really projected to go higher than 3rd or 4th at any point.....that draft always seemed to be a race between Patrick and Hischier, with the 2 dmen as the consolation prize. clearly, in hindsight, the 2 dmen ended up being the best players taken, but they were never projected to be.

had makar been projected to go 4th or 5th and dropped to 10th (as rossi and perfetti were), then yes, it would be the same.

You'd be surprised how many locals don't understand this. They have tried to "build around" the current arena but it doesn't help for Sens games. You still have to commute to the building. Heck, it's like a 15 min walk to the arena after you pay like $20 for parking.

A downtown area will bring in more casual fans and offer more commuting options. Not to mention stuff to do before and after games. It seems to work in just about every other market, but there are still naysayers who say it won't work.

the obvious issue is that there is no way Melnyk can afford to build downtown without government assistance or backing from a partner (which he'll never get given his history), and he already owns the land in the west end.

building another rink out there is the only way the team will get a new arena without a new owner.

I agree though, a new arena out there is just dumb......if you're leaving it out there, just keep the current one, it's perfectly fine, and invest that money in the (frank)ing team. the only reason to build a new arena is to move it at the same time.

melnyk is a (frank)ing idiot and this team will continue to spin it's wheels as long as he owns it. I think they'll be a good team on ice because of the young talent, but he'll never pay for the complimentary pieces or the competent and large enough staff to put them over the top. either he can't afford it, or the right people just don't want to work for him.
