Can we toss out there, Okposo for Fleury?
2 bad contracts and maybe we pick up part to make up for the extra years?

I think Vegas might be more interested in the Fleury/Okposo contract swap, if Buffalo included a RHD (Montour?) and took a LHD off their hands. Buffalo could also throw in Pilut, as a sweetener. Fleury's numbers weren't really all that impressive this past season, which is why they went and acquired Lehner and then extended him. Having a $7mil per season backup the next 2 years is certainly not ideal cap management.

The one and only route to take via trade is Minnesota and Kuempfer. Give them what they want and suck it up. Signing Taylor Hall Dallas Eakin, and trading for Staal are win-now moves. No way can we win-now with Ullmark and Hutton between the pipes. Ullmark is a perfect backup to have but just not Playoff caliber material. Going with Kuempfer is.

You lost me at Kuemfer with Minnesota.

Do you mean Kuemper in Arizona?

Hearing a lot of chatter that Sabres have interest in Finn Patrick Laine to play on the right side with Eichel and Hall to create the biggest young power line ever.

Possible scenarios (that do not include trading fellow Finn Risto who Krueger likes and everyone else wants to run out of town)

To Buffalo: Laine $6.75 mil and Brossoit $1.5 mil and Roslovic

To Winnipeg: Hutton $2.75 ml and Montadour $3.85 mil and Middlestadt plus a 1st round pick of Buffalo's choice in next two years.
The most lkely type offer from Buffalo with Miller replacing Montador in some books

Or

Laine for Reinhardt plus a 1st round pick in next coupe of years

Or

Laine for Okposso and Montador where Buffalo retains $2.5 million of Okpossos salary cap over next 3 years Plus a couple of picks including a 1st and a 3rd

Or

Laine and Copp for Jeff Skinner

In each scenario, Sabres lose some picks to get to a young Power line like no one has been seen before since the days of the French Connection.

Winnipeg need defensemen and they like both Miller and Montadour and Buffalo does not have room for 4 right handed shot defensemen

If Reinhardt and Skinner stays, they could flank Dylan Cousins on a second line and Stahl could center Olafson and Kahun on a 3rd line
with Eakin Laazar and Girgensons and Thomson on the 4th line

However, the fact that Buffalo signed Thomson to 3 years indicates they feel he has tremendous upside on the wing so I would not be surprised to see Reinhardt traded to get Laine. Comparatively, Reinhardt is not as strong or skilled a player as Laine, but he does fit the Winnipeg work hard player profiles that they seek out and they might be willing to pay him $5.5 to $6 million per year for 5 years.

Trading Skinner and a pick for Laine and Copp also makes sense but to a lesser extent than trading a defenseman in a package for Laine.

Hope something like this happens!

Ps. still hearing that sabres are working on something with Phoenix as well (who have to shed salary) where Kemper, Stepan, Hjalmarsson and Schmaltz name keep getting mentioned

Hjalmarson would be a perfect fit to play with Jokiharju as a 2nd pair defense pair behind Dahlen and Miller with Risto and McCabe playing as a 3rd pair.

Having said this, Oliver Ekman Larson would be a great player to play in Buffalo but his contract is too rich.....it would take a Jeff Skinner contract to Phoenix to make this happen and Phoenix would still want Buffalo to take on another contract too

stay tuned....since we now seem to have a management team willing to make moves rather than sit back and wait for the grass to grow!!!!
