Carol Schram: Gino Odjick takes on amyloidosis again; Holtby & Schmidt get their numbers Six years after successfully beating the rare heart disease amyloidosis, Vancouver Canucks legend Gino Odjick is once again being treated for a recurrence of the disease. Also, new Canucks Braden Holtby and Nate Schmidt get their numbers assigned and the Canucks re-sign minor-league goaltender Jake Kielly.

Hawyrluk's a UFA. I have no real opinion on him, he's barely played in the NHL.

I would think so, for the most part. There's talk that they'll get Jake signed before his hearing on Oct. 28.

Hearings start Tuesday. Three others have now signed: Mangiapane, DeAngelo and Georgiev.

Isn’t this more for the Comets, I wouldn’t move Gaudette for Hawryluk.

Get Leivo signed over Hawryluk

No point in moving Gaudette unless there's a trade for a more proven (but young) center.

There's no one in the system to replace him, and having one of Sutter or Beagle center that third line is going to make the team worse.

I know, doesn't make sense. Leivo would be more $, but i'd also rather have him. Apparently 3 teams are trying to sign Hawryluk.

Sad to hear this all over again for Gino.

I was in a poker tourney he was in a decade ago give or take. He was at my table and was out quickly. Everyone was bugging him about hockey so he probably was distracted. lol...

Interesting narratives coming out in the second version of the silly season.

Anyway good to know that Carol agrees until the month finishes with all the arb cases we won't see much more movement anywhere. After those pieces are resolved teams will know what they have cap wise to move players or sign new ones lingering out there.

Believe at that point JB makes a cap move to go for another D and F though you'd think plan B is waiting on prospects and Tryamkin. By then LE should be gone and the LTIR situation cleared up.

Read again statement is gone not traded. Ergo waved to spark termination either mutually or by retirement. Leverage only if there is an AHL season and then can bury in the minors until he's gone.
