Ben Shelley: Will Quinton Byfield spend the 2020-21 season in the NHL?

He should go back and play in the OHL. Unlike lafrennierre, byfield was invisible in the world junior tournament.... due to covid, he hasn’t played much hockey since then therefore in my opinion he should spend another year in the OHL.

Unless he hits camp and blows everyone away. Hes going back to juniors.

Yannetti said it in his post-draft interview. There's a difference between being good enough to play in the NHL and being ready to play in the NHL. Byfield is unquestionably good enough, but he's likely not ready. I don't think he'll be on the Kings for more than 9 games.

Starting the season in LA and then going back to juniors is the best of both worlds. He'll see firsthand how big and strong NHL players are and then know what he needs to work on once he's sent back. He'll be able to develop in a comfortable environment, but, hopefully, without being so comfortable that he gets complacent, which is always a fear when prospects who are almost too good for juniors are sent back.

Kings don’t need him this year as they won’t be very good regardless. No need in burning a year on ELC for a wasted year anyway due to COVID.

Give him a 1-9 game taste. That's it. Don't ruin the kid. There is zero need for him to play more than 9 games in the NHL this year.

Exactly. He can get specific direction from the staff on what to work on in the OHL based on training camp, practice, and game evaluations. The club will have ~2 months of data on him against pros. That's valuable. He can take those lessons and refine his game.
