He sucks. I hated him as a Hurricane.

Plays real hard. Accomplishes nothing.

I love it when the Flames snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory every post-season.

You need to stop writing on behalf of the Flames. You live in the States and need to really do your homework as most of your posts are negative and out to lunch.
Terrible read.

From what I have read he is essentially a fourth line pk specialist since he was 5th on the bruins in pk time despite playing 22 games less than the other pk's on there team... not anything to get upset about. I wonder if Tre is considering trading Ryan since 3 mill is kinda high for a fourth line center. Maybe someone from the farm gets a chance. Gawdin or ? Not sure how to spell it starts with an R...

And what are your thoughts on the deal? He's a below replacement level player with terrible metrics in every category.

His only pros are penalty killing (which a monkey could do) and being bff's with Lindy and Markstrom.

It was a league-minimum deal for a penalty-killing effort guy. They still need five more players and are basically out of money to spend.

When you're offering 700k, none of the options are going to be all that attractive. He's probably a little bit better than Reider, and Reider was fine. He's also much, much better than Rinaldo.

Have to agree here seems like low risk.
6'1 and 195 lbs dont hurt either.
I hope he skates well too.

I didn't know Ontario is part of the US, that's where Todd is based and by the way using your email address as a user name. Just shows how smart you are.

Yeah. 700k, no big deal. Can't loose really, if you need more bodies.
Flames might want to look at Simon, Pitt let him walk, he's somewhat useful and comes cheap as well..

They're pretty similar but yeah. I thought Jankowski maybe had more upside.

Nordstrom is fast as hell, I'll give him that. Does very little with it, but he's fast as hell and works hard.

Good penalty killer and league min deal. Seems like a perfect bottom six who may come in and out of the lineup. Here's a thought though, what if this was something bigger at play? What if this was a move to tee up a trade with Arizona for OEL? There are rumours that OEL was looking at Vancouver because of Markstrom and Boston because he's friends with Nordtrom. These two players weren't the only reason he was willing to accept a trade to the two cities but it would make sense that he'd add Calgary to his list. We're just short of being the Swedish national team now. The team that Treiliving is building and the job they are doing with drafting well reminds me so much of the Red Wings of the 90s and early 2000s.

I think that ship passed for OEL. We could of sent them Hanifin back but we have zero space to eat the 3.3mill difference. Perhaps a team like Detroit or Ottawa would take Ryan & our 2021 2nd to free up almost that difference. I dont know man, that would be a pretty bold move for a 2 year window if that's what the franchise thinks.

I would rather have a guy that is giving his all every shift than a guy that shows up every 5th game.

Side note - you could always work a 3 team trade where Arizona and the "middle man" team eat some salary apiece if you felt like moving contracts would be an issue.

OEL's contract is a legit problem. 6 more years at $8.25M in a flat cap world poses a big challenge if you aren't getting regular Norris consideration.

Ryan is a good hockey player. If the Flames need to move him for cap reasons, they're not going to have to pay someone to take him.

If the guy that shows up every 5th game can get 25 points he's way ahead of Nordstrom.

Perhaps but with most teams up to the nuts on cap & no one is about to do anyone any favours, there is still a limited market of teams able & willing to take on the cap so the Flames can try to & improve. Kinda dog eat dog right now.

He's be a good fit on a team like the Rangers or Panthers and they'd probably give up a 4th or 5th for him.

He only has a year left on his deal and would be an upgrade to most teams bottom six. He'll be easy to move if they have to.

If the whole point is to clear room for OEL, he's probably just included in that deal.
