Well with Nordstrom, Rinaldo, Robinson, Gawdin, & now Simon, I think Ryan may be on the move, someone has to be anyway.I like this signing. Very versatile can play both sides on wing & centre.

Much of that “production “ was him playing top line with Sid. As a bottom 6 guy production was minimal.

Sorry.

Rinaldo, Robinson and Gawdin are not regular 4th line players.

Simon and Nordstrom are the only ones between them who will likely see some ice every night, or close. Ryan is still necessary in this scheme.

Drew Shore would've been a good replacement for Ryan, but he's just signed in Carolina.

Maybe try to pry Jordan Weal from Montreal on 50% salary retained for a 5th round pick or something.

With all these depth one way signings does any one think Tre is posturing for a bigger move?

Not at all. They're just filling for Jankowski, Rieder, Quine and Czarnik.

Who is gonna do Calgary any favors taking that albatross of a contract off their hands? 3.125M for a 4th liner is disgusting. Its a flat cap world and no one is biting on that.

30-40 point, 4th line centre. Even if a bit over paid, he's very useful which is why they'll keep him around for the last year of his contract.

I said that a few days ago that Flames could use him. He's better than his stats, needs to improve his finishing touch.
Good depth signing.

He was used almost exclusively on the top line the past two years.

You are correct, he is an analytics king. Good luck.

Ryan was 3rd line prior to bubble play & production is actually pretty decent, 53% on the faceoffs & a pretty defensively responsible player. He's paid like a 3rd liner & hardly an albatross contract. Truly believe the team is committed to Bennett centring the 3rd line before making a major decision on him at the end of this season. Ryan should be tradeable, wont get value for him but he is tradeable.

With you on Benny...he has earned the right to play C and provides the most upside at C for us. Lindy is our only right shot winger so I say leave him on the wing. Could see Ryan being moved out for a 3rd pair RD making similar money and Gawdin or someone getting a shot at 4th line C. Teams likely will be tweaking lineups with these kind of moves before camps start.

That would be an awful move. Ryan is one of the better bottom six players in the league and the Flames should be hanging on to him unless they need to clear some room to bring in an impact player.

Very good signing. He can play well with skilled players, has good hockey IQ and is alright defensively. Good skater, good speed. The only knock on him is his finishing ability. Loved the guy and wish nothing but the best to Dominik.

Agreed. The only scenario where I move Ryan is if it allows us to bring in Hoffman.

Your neighbors to the north just paid Kyle Turris, whom had more points in less games, and has a reputation to be defensively responsible and have more offensive upside, tho on the downswing 1.65M to be their 3C.

Should say a little about Ryan's value.

Useless no. Overpaid? VERY. At 3+ he has very little value in a flat cap world. Not saying he is a useless player, but little value on the trade market at 3+ in a flat cap world.

Well the neighbours to the North got a guy looking to rebound & get numbers up similar to what Barrie did. Trying to cash in on the McDavid lotto ticket. Keep in mind that Turris got a massive buyout which kinda hits the psyche & players sign cheaply to prove themselves & can afford to do so. Shattenkirk did a similar thing, cmon thats not a very good comparable.
Coyle, Compher,Donskoi, Cizikas I can go on & on if you want are all very good 3rd line players all with similar stats to Ryans for the last few years of 35-40 points & all paid in the mid $3.0 mill per year. Hardly an albatross contract. I always thought you were an Oiler cult zombie, I suppose whoever your team is has no albatross contracts so you have no idea what one is?

The flat cap world means nothing. It's a one year contract. You either have space right now or you don't. There's also a pretty good chance you could get him to stick around at a much lower number.

I doubt the Flames want to move him, but if they need to, it won't be hard to find someone to take him. He'll make any team that gets him better.

Depth is never a bad thing. I was hoping we would hold onto Forbert.

He's like Brodie he plays the right side even though he shoots left. I would think Yelesin, Nesterov & Kyllington are going to be scrapping that #6 spot on the RHS.
Thing about condensed schedules is your going to probably get more injuries than normal, you need NHL guys to step in.
