How can you expect them to be better? We gave up our top 2 goal scorers and added 2 defenseman and 3 nobodies

Hey Harv -

I hear you on losing Dadonov and Hoff, but I think the scoring last season was so inconsistent. I think (hope) the forwards they signed will help compliment the guys who are paid to be your scorers: Barky, Huby, Connolly, etc., and set them up for success. I really think Hornqvist is going to be a big time difference-maker down low. They don’t have anyone that brings that type of game and it is very much welcomed.

It’s also my hope that the two defensemen brought in will help stabilize the blue line more than what they had last year. I think Gudas helps open the ice a bit for guys and makes them a little harder to play against in their zone. Either resigning, or trading Weegar, for more help can only further strengthen the team.

But these are just my beliefs and hopes with Zito’s off-season thus far. I can certainly understand why you would be pessimistic.

Lundell scored four goals today. On one he picked up the puck in the faceoff circle in his own zone, and took it straight to the net. Skated past everybody. https://mobile.twitter.co...tatus/1320019077008674817
Two of the other three were on penalty shots. Deked the goalie the first time, then beat him with a quick shot on the second.

Saarela has been lighting it up to start the Liga season. He looked good in the last few Panther games before the shutdown.

He’s signed (with an out clause for when NHL restarts) with the same Liiga team that Lundell is on. He hasn’t played as he is still rehabbing an ankle(?) injury.

Bill Zito said in his initial interview he was not told to reduce salary by ownership. Although I have no proof of this, that’s a big lie. Lose Haula, Hoffman, Davadov, Boyle,Psysk and gain Radko, Nutiaara, Verhaeghe and 2 nobodies. That looks like a 12mil drop in salary cap. I’m not impressed at all

While Zito wasn’t told to reduce cap to a certain number, he certainly was told not to spend recklessly or foolishly. They have around $11 million cap space left, still have to re-sign Weegar, as well as Saarela and Borgstrom. That should leave them with somewhere around $6million left afterwards. Hoffman hasn’t signed anywhere yet, perhaps something happens with Hoffman after the RFAs are signed and they know exactly how much cap space is left. There are still some teams that may have to trade a good player cheaply to get under the cap. A lot of offseason left, yet.

I think Verhaeghe is their best addition, he will help replace Dadonov’s goal scoring.
