A venture down the rabbit hole to see what the Blackhawks roster would look like if Toews, Kane, Keith, and Seabrook were all traded. Have fun with this exercise and don't take it too seriously!

Wow! You put a lot of thought into that; great job and interesting. I usually would never agree on any trade proposal involving Kane, but what you proposed would be a mega haul!

I’d make a second account if I was going to publish wet dreams onliine, personally.

Every single one of these are utterly ridiculous and you overvalue these aging and worn out players by an unfathomable margin.

The Kane for three first round picks, a top line winger and top 2C prospect is especially hilarious. All you held back on was a night with Kim Pegula.

Yes, I get that you’re trying to be funny but why not just state you want the penguins top 3 players for a signed autograph of Shaw? Don’t stop there. Why don’t we just ignore salary cap and choose the best player from each team in exchange for 7th round picks, for the next 31 years, everyone has to stand in line for theirs don’t be in a rush.

You’re a fan, you drink the koolaid, I get it it’s cute, even funny, but funny like hehe not funny like haha

Talk about a roster overhaul!
The thing is, the returns are actually in keeping with the value the outgoing players have to the Blackhawks, but it's hard to imagine the other teams agreeing to the terms.
I wonder how the new 'Hawks roster would mesh? You gotta think at least 1/2 season to get any chemistry together.

Sorry Theo, the Cap police has to pull you over

1). Can only retain salary on up to 3 contracts, Hawks already have Saad and Matta retained

2) With Saad’s and Mattas combined cap hit of $1.75 million, even if you somehow skirt how many contracts you can retain dollars on, you are retaining an additional $12 mil. In salary, Hawks are only able to retain at most 15% of the cap, which is approximately $12.7 million.

Fun blog. Think you might have made Scott's year with all the trade suggestions.

From yesterday, missed the GOAT rock band back and forth...

Another early Stones appearance - on the TAMI (Teen Age Music International) Show, also from 1964.

How nice to see them - young and simplistic, without the distractions of the large stadium shows. Just the World’s Greatest Rock-N-Roll band.

Gotta agree, it's the Stones or Beatles. I waffle on any given day but I might have to give the Beatles the nod for not just their catalog, but the fact that all four members had decent to fantastic solo careers.

Lennon, McCartney and Harrison all produced some really fantastic post-Beatles stuff.

Ram is one of my all-time favorite albums. All Things Must Pass is amazing too. I think it's said that Harrison wrote those songs during his time with The Beatles. Funny, with a song like "Wah Wah." I think Ringo was the only one with a big hit out of the four with a solo career, iirc.

All great along with Lennon's early stuff. "All Things Must Pass" was essentially the culmination of songs that didn't make the Beatles albums. The first time I heard "What is Life" as a kid, I just assumed it was a Beatles song.

Lennon and McCartney allowed George his one obligatory song on each album which produced some of my favorite Beatles songs (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun, Taxman, Something).

When the band called it quits he had a triple album ready.

It does sound like a Beatles song. I think Dylan helped on that song.

I think of Family Guy when Ringo would come to the band & say he wrote a song. They'd say, "Good work, go hang it on the fridge."

Harrison wrote great stuff, no doubt. Clapton, being the douche that he was, helped on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Harrison gave a copy of that album to Clapton. He later passed it around to everyone he knew. Then the whole "Layla" wife stealing thing ...

Blackhawks: Sam Reinhart, Dylan Cozens, Jack Quinn, 2021 1st, 2022 1st
Sabres: Patrick Kane ($5M retained)

Similarly, the return on this trade is high because the Hawks are taking back $5.2M in Reinhart’s salary while also retaining $5M of Kane’s salary. Reinhart adds back a top 6 right wing. - T. Fox

Like the un-fun posters from other teams suggested, it's not likely that BUF makes a deal like this, but of the remaining C4, Kane is the only one that could potentially return this type of deal.

Unless someone calls Stan with an offer looking like this one, Kane should stay a Hawk. 2, 7, and 19 all sound like they are good in mentoring roles to varying degrees but 88 may be the best now that he's decided to be good for the brand.

Fun, but pretty much all of these are unrealistic expectations trade value wise. If you were going to go back and try and make a more realistic version, I'd suggest adding a couple considerations.
1: Blackhawks can only retain salary on one more player.
2: Teams who weren't in the top 16 last season won't trade away draft picks.

The first is just a rule in the CBA. The second isn't a guaranteed truth, but as a general rule, rebuilding teams aren't trading away draft picks for players over 30, so without having to consider every teams situation individually that rule kind of considers each of them.

Yep Clapton plays the lead on it. I could be wrong but even in spite of the whole thing with Clapton and Pattie Boyd Harrison, George and Slow Hand remained friends.

The Hawks get a 1st rounder due to Subban’s $9M contract with two years left. The Devils gain top 9 forwards in Strome and Nylander who could replace Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri who are 2021 UFAs.

I enjoy you're blogs Theo but, Alex Nylander top 9?

How about expanding the Buff deal :

Buff : P. Kane, Keith

Chi : Okposo, Cozens, Dahlin, 2021 1st.

Chi. looses best forward, and defensman. 16 mil off the books, and 2 NMC, plus 2 players that put butts in seats. Okposo is a cap dump only. 6 mil x 3

Buff. gets 2 HOF players with SC experience , will have the best top line in hockey, a minute eater on D, Kane goes home and could very well lead the league in scoring and puts butts in seats, and Buff will be the favorite to win the cup. The first will be the last pick in the first round then.

If Buff wants to win a cup.....it will cost them

While I love the idea of Patrick Kane to the Sabres, I don’t believe that under the current circumstances he is worth essentially 5 first round picks. Reinhart, Cozens and Quinn are all Top 10 selections and then 2 more 1st round picks on top of those guys? With the financial status of the game, Kane’s contract is still significant (unless eating $5mil meant all 3 remaining years, not just one). He is still towards the end of his career more so than the beginning. I would be more willing to accept the prospect and draft pick bundle, if the Hawks took Okposo’s contract off their hands. Otherwise, this is an overpayment under the current circumstances of the NHL, in my opinion.

Unrealistic and not acceptable with CBA.......As before mentioned. Would be fun if you adhered to the rules.

Besides Kane is not that valuable to gain those 3 players and 2 1sts. Reinhart, Colin Miller, Jack Quinn plus 1st w/ retention of $2.5M on Kane might work though.

Wow. You guys really have either an inflated view of the past their prime players of Keith and Kane or undervalue our last three draft picks. And just because you are willing to take on the Okposo contract doesnt make this in any way shape or form a reasonable trade.

The original offer of 2 firsts and 3 former first round draft picks (I think I recall) is really not remotely realistic.

Excuse our touchiness, but you got your cups, now you pay the price for overpaying your stars and see what you can do from here. Might be better than what we can do with our draft picks, but we certainly can do better than these trades.

I will never spit on a player asking for what he's worth , but the whole cataclysm to this rebuild were huge contracts handed out on limited cap space, in essence it's not bad decisions by management but rather the system that killed the Blackhawks.

I guess this is a '' my contract sucks '' moment but for the core of players in Chicago.

One thing about Keith that would be attractive to Miami - his cap hit is $5.5, but his cash payout is “only” $2.65 next season, then $2.1, then $1.5.

Q could get a quality asset he could work with for three seasons, while saving a financially struggling team a bunch of real money.
