I'd leave Strome exposed too. If he left it would sting, but it's someone that could prevent a Hajek or Howden taken if you really cared about it (I think we both agree we wouldn't care) |

another year of growth for Chytil, Fox, Lindgren, Kakko, is just what is needed. maybe a bit of an allotment for a sophomore slump on the defensemen. johnson, if we are worried about him, then that's the least of the problems. seeing if Buchnevich has more to give, then see how Laf does adjusting. i wouldnt mind seeing another 4th line guy brought in for some grit. |

I definitely dont care about Hajek, I'd rather lose Strome than Howden but it really doesn't bother me either way
none of those three names being Seattle Kraken's in 2021-22 bother me at all |

This is my only hope why its 2 years. After this season, Rangers need to upgrade over him if they want to take the next step |

I think the team realizes this. I think they hope Chytil is that person and he does take that step this year. I think they also realize that by doing this they are preventing a disaster at the position if things don't break right. I could see them after the season actively trying for an upgrade if Chytil falls flat.

Considering we traded Ryan Spooner for Strome, losing him in the expansion draft does not bother me one bit.
This is exactly the kind of contract I wanted for Strome. I think it's the best outcome for all parties. Might be a touch high, but we have the breathing room. |

I think it depends on how Chytil progresses this year. If he doesn't take that next step I don't think they expose Strome. If he looks ready to be a 2C Strome will be exposed. I think it's a good deal |

Exactly. I would have liked a little less for him, but it's not enough to female dog about.
The thing that I felt most when hearing this news is that I (frank)ing love the way JD and Gorton are running this team right now!!! They have made some incredibly difficult decisions and every move made has been about creating sustained success.
We have a Cup coming, boys!! (sometime) Take it to the bank!!!!! |

I think between Tony and Strome's deals, and if we figure $1.5M for Lemieux, that still leaves us enough cap space to bring in Kravtsov and/or Barron with their bonus figures which is huge |

Agreed. But, mostly because Lemieux is NOT getting that much. Which makes it even better.
IMO, after moving on from Fast and Hank, as well as negotiating with Strome and ADA in such a focused manner, there is no way NYR blows a gimme of a contract situation and overpays the guy who is least important this offseason. |

1 million too high - mdw7413
I don't know if we can realistically think he go from 3.2 million to only 3.5 million after that season he had, no matter how much of it was Panarin
its fine, lets roll with this season, I cannot wait to see Lafreniere

I don't disagree and would prefer he gets closer to $1-1.25M, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over $250,000 on what will likely be a 1 or 2 year deal. My point was that even on the high end of his projected contract it won't prohibit any call-ups this year which is the most important part |

The guy almost put up a PPG last season and people think 4.5 is too high? Y'all are crazy - people were throwing out numbers that started with 7 at the beginning of the RFA period. Good value signing, surprised it's so low. |

Without commenting on the $, the point totals are largely due to the fact that he played with Panarin... obviously |

It depends Jimmy.
If Strome goes out and produces at an 80 point pace with Panarin again, are you comfortable exposing him and losing him for nothing? |

it really depends, I have to see how the other guys do this season too before I made that decision
everybody I would expose to protect Strome is younger
so in short, I can't answer that question

To me it 100% relies on Chytil and to a lesser extent Howden's performance this year |

Thinking about expansion draft implications with Strome on 2-year deal...
Of seven #NYR forwards can protect, three have to Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider because of NMC.
Then pick 4 from: Strome, Buchnevich, Chytil, Gauthier, Howden and Lemieux.
Two get left out... |
