anyone calling this cash grab, get used to it. For all intents and purposes the NHL has been way behind other markets on this. Adidas makes a new jerseys every year for all teams in top soccer leagues, why? cause the fans want the latest jersey and buy them, teams make more money and so to does Adidas.
this is just a new reality, so if you don't like the new jersey, no worries, wait 12-18 months and maybe you'll prefer the next one |

I think I said this last year before the season starts so fully understand how stupid I look saying it again but I cant wait for the year and I see whatever outcome as a win win for us!!
we underachieve and miss the playoffs and you have to assume or hope that Chipman can no longer make excuses for coach and GM and makes some bigger changes. this could be seen as a win.
or like 3 years ago, most people are sleeping on the Jets and we come out and have a strong year. this is also a win |

I understand re the jerseys, I just don't like it. But I grimace and carry on.
Hopefully it's like 3 years ago - people are sleeping on us.
Really, I believe the Jets are like one stud RH d-man away from being a legit contender. Problem being the stud does not grow on trees , and hard to secure. Also be nice if Samberg or Heinola became that solid 2nd/1st pairing LH d-man.
Maybe need a major splash?

The Jets don’t splash.
Stastny back in the day was a brilliant move, because Vegas tried to f*ck us earlier in the day, and nobody expected St. Louis to be so friendly.
The Hayes move was one everyone and their dog could see coming, but disappointed because of Maurice being a fool, and Stone being right there for the taking.
DeMelo was a very smart pickup, but not huge news.
Everything else has been moving deck chairs around on a ship with a drunk captain. No splash.

Stone refused to sign an extension with us, would only do so in Vegas. This was reported by many.
but I agree with your premise |

The reason I’ve heard most for this is because we wouldn’t pay him more than Wheeler. Can’t make more than the captain.
You know, despite Stone being better now than Wheeler was at his peak in 2016. Which is actually insane, because Wheeler was a top 5 winger in his prime. |

Glad to see you're still so optimistic!
What about the Pionk move? You rate Pionk better than Seth Jones. Surely that must nave been huge news when Pionk arrived? And I believe you rate DeMelo right up there with Pionk, don't you? Surely that was huge news?
If we brought in Connor McDavid, I'm pretty sure you would say we should have traded for Jonathan Toews instead.
Who's the best GM out there IYO? Why?

For sure. If you are an old Whalers fan or Nordiques fan, can see these being great Christmas gifts. But many of the Jerseys just don't cut it for me. It's a cool thing to do, but sadly this is the current talk of the hockey world, and what every team blog seems to be about. Let's get some actual puck playing on the TV again! |

I don't know about that Rexy, if the captain is drunk and steering the ship erratically and a deck chair fell off would it not make a splash, pretty sure that it would.. |

Pionk is an average 2nd pairing defenceman. A solid #4 that can make some noise in a simple system. The problem with him was A: being traded for Trouba, and B: being the worst defensive player in the NHL the year previous.
He was symbolic of everything wrong with the Jets to that point. His turnaround last year is equal parts welcome and unpredictable.
DeMelo is a brilliant 2/3, but the reason that’s not “big” is because he’s so unknown. For us? It’s huge. He’s our current best defenceman. But a 3rd for a guy nobody has really heard of isn’t a splash.
You made it sound like I’m underrating Pionk and DeMelo, when really it’s just that Jones is kinda bad. Dude had big minutes, but pillowy soft usage. Murray and Savard got railroaded for better results |

Byfuglien made a splash, but that’s a big f*cking chair to have go overboard. |

Jones is not "kinda bad", he is just not a top 5 D in the NHL like some make him out to be, there is a huge difference between those two, just like Devon Toews is not Bobby Orr or even a top pairing D like some have made him out to be in here. |

No maybe not a top 5 in the NHL but not far off. Certainly a top-5 if we had a Canadian division and he was a Jet.
So, let;s see. We have, in no particular order - Dahlin, Makar, Heiskanen, Josi, Pietranngelo, Hedman, Sergachev(?), Krig, Hughes, Carlson - and Jones? Who am I missing, and I am probably missing some obvious one.? |

Seth Jones was the 5th best defenceman on the Columbus Blue Jackets last year. |

What was that list meant to be?
Also, there is no team in Canada right now where Seth Jones is even in the top 3 on said team.
I really don’t understand why people think he’s good. Even watching him, he gets turnstiled in his own end on a regular basis. It’s hard to find a stat that makes him look good outside of carrying the puck into the offensive zone |

Based on one of 25 metrics. I can play this to. Austin mathews would have been the Jets 4th best center last year |

Lol it’s based on all of them. Nobody has provided me a single stat or metric that shows Jones to be good |

Seth Jones is a very productive player. I give him full credit for ranking 16th in points by a defenceman, 9th in even strength points, 19th in EV P/60, 18th in EV G/60, etc. since the 2016-17
No need to respond with your classic, ya but that’s just points.
Cause we all know you dont need points to win games, all you need possession and more shots, that’s how they will eventually determine the winner of game right? |

I guess now you can show how 4 other D in Columbus were better? I’ll wait. |

Why don’t we take a look at these other lovely charts? The first showing his lack of offensive impact, the second displaying his negative impact on offensive production, and the third showing his evident decline over the past few seasons. |
