I know that long term deals can be boat anchors but you need to sometimes commit instead of pushing the problem further down the road.

agreed, if his career path continues on this arc he will cost more in 2-3 years when the cap un-flattens , can't kick the can down the road forever

The move makes sense.

Aho’s, Turbo’s, Pesce’s deals will have another year.
We would clear Gardiner, Staal, and Nino’s money before it ends.
We will have a chance to build the roster around Svech, Aho, and Turbo.

Although I wish we could make it a 3 year bridge with the assumption that we re-sign Aho and Svech before their deals are up. Gives us one more year of Svech, carrying him to presumably 32. Knowing that we can’t guarantee players re-sign early, if it all, the 2 year bridge is the right move.

Less about what the team wants and more about what Svech wants. Current economic situation makes betting on himself make sense, especially if the cap isn't moving for a couple years anyway.
