They thought the ratings were bad before? Now you get to watch the same 7 teams 8 times. One division will have 7 teams, which means the same 6 teams TEN times

I know you have issue with Kyvyn Kryugyr and their offseason, and I don't really disagree with you, so I'll leave it as is.

They apparently had zero interest in Larsson. I'm sure they were aware of his abilities and effectiveness.

He wasn't a premium free agent, as he took an entire day to sign a very low contract, especially for what we valued him at. Same with Kahun, he signed a very underwhelming contract 3 weeks later. And Vesey is what he is and is priced appropriately.

While I agree that the 3 players you listed are cumulatively better than the second 3 you listed today, I don't really think the comparison is fair.

"To be fair"

Hall, Reinhart, Olofsson, Skinner, Thompson, Cozens >>>>> Reinhart, Olofsson, Skinner, Vesey, Sobotka/Frolik, Kahun/Sheary

Eichel, Staal, Eakin, Lazar >>>>>> Eichel, Johansson, Larsson, Lazar

Logistically, you could have kept some of these guys, not signed other guys, gave other guys smaller contracts, so on and so forth.

But I think they were sticking to a model, bringing in certain players with certain skills, to play differently this year. They need to prove that 'different' is better, but I believe they want to play differently.

I don't know why the Sabres didn't want Kahun for under a million, and I also don't know why 29 other teams felt the exact same way.

I just thank the spirit in the sky that Larsson wanted out...if he wanted to stay, I fear Kyvyn Krueger would have offered him $3.2 over 5 years.

I don't blame people for having that opinion but I'm not sure how true it is.

Staal is 36, will be taking almost a full year off (besides the 4 games they played in the bubble) and then playing a condensed schedule in the final year of his deal, on a team he's less than thrilled about joining. I'm not as optimistic that he just continues being good.

Eakin to Larsson is a massive downgrade.

Taylor Hall makes this offseason palatable

Vaccinate the athletes, remove bubbles and intradivision play.
- TheSabresTaco

I can't imagine the athletes getting priority status early on in the vaccine ... gotta get the healthcare workers, 1st responders and the At High-risk populations covered 1st.

Stripes posted an article a while back that international travelers in Canada will be subject to a rapid COVID test as opposed to a 14-day quarantine. Hopefully getting that into place makes the all-Canada division unnecessary. New York State also allows a COVID test and 3-days' quarantine now instead of a 14-day quarantine but I believe NFL players were exempt from that due to them being on stricter protocols. Now that testing is more available, and a vaccine or 2 seems to be on the horizon, I don't think bubbles or realignments will be what they end up going with.
- buffalofan19

It's only for Calgary as a test case, so we aren't quite there yet in terms of throwing open the borders.

As we speak, Ottawa is mulling over whether or not the Raptors (and their opponents, of course) to get a special exemption to allow travel without 14 day quarantine.

IMHO, that's the one to watch. If the Raptors are allowed to play in Toronto, I can't see how the NHL will be denied.

Based on his performance into his thirties, I feel it's fair to be optimistic about his ppg as well as on ice effectiveness. I know you're low on him, and I'm not going to convince you of otherwise, I just feel the evidence is there to show there's a great chance he's going to be Minnesota's Eric Staal. Even a slight downgrade is leagues greater than Marcus (frank)ing Johansson.

Hopefully that is what happens...
After first responders/medical workers and those deemed to be at a higher risk due to age or existing conditions. Also cashiers, etc at grocery stores and transportation workers like that who have to put themselves at risk for their job should be higher priority. Athletes can be in line before all the politicians, though.

The NBA is releasing their schedule in halves. Why not just schedule half the season and see what the world looks like in mid February instead of going with this half-baked dumbassery

Isn’t that the likely reason they didn’t keep him, because they knew he really didn’t want to be there anymore? ( I thought it was rumored in the past that he wanted out, forgive me if incorrect). If your goal is to build a better, stronger, winning culture, it seems that step one is get rid of those that don’t want to be there, if possible.

Eichel will win the MVP someday if our coaches/GM’s finally decide they don’t love 55

Staal should be fine, but he’s also going from 1C-2C and probably not on PP1.

So we’re probably looking at a 35-40 point player tops. Which is fine if it’s mostly at EV and he helps Skinner regain some consistency

But teams are gonna feast on Staal/Eakin if that’s the plan on defense

And then in the playoffs you could conceivably play a division opponent 7 more times. A team could play 67 games this year, and 15 are against one team. 22% of their games against 1 team. God i hate the NHL sometimes

In the 7 team division, its 17/67: 25%

We don't know that this is the plan. There are a lot of ideas thrown out there for every league.

Remember when Adam Schefter (I think) was reporting that the NFL had decided on having all AFC/NFC matchups played in the first four weeks of the season, and then the schedule came out and it wasn't even close?

Which means playing Girgensons in the sobotka role in the top 6, along with Reinhart on the third line providing 200 foot play and spreading out scoring may be exactly what the doctor ordered
