They thought fans would be back. But the flu is putting a kibosh on their plans. No fans until 2022...

This is a big reason why Petro is in Vegas. His camp was adamant about getting the bonus structure, blues wanted it in salary.

If the Chicago cubs make over 70% of their revenue from game day ticket sales/ events, NHL is screwed with empty arenas.

Sooner they realize this the better it will be for all to make contingency plans for the long offseason.

The players want hockey and the owners want hockey. They might be greedy by times but they'll make sacrifices to play. The fans will come back when they can and 'pay $4000 a seat' because they want hockey too.

$4,000 a seat? You mean regular price for Leaf games.

I wonder if this is why the imminent Hoffman signing from 2 weeks ago is delayed. He wants bonuses and the 8+ teams chasing him want to offer salary. Also curious if there is an update on the Oilers signing Haula so they can flip him to Vegas for MAF? Although that leaves the Oilers with 3 goalies so maybe this is on hold until they trade a goalie. Dominos are everywhere right now.

Horrible decision by the NHLPA - I can't imagine what they are thinking. With thee economy still hurting, do they really expect FULL salary for a short seeason with little or no fans in the arenas ? Greedy ! As much as I love hockey and my DRW season ticket package, I think I will cancel if this is the final decision from the players. Shame on them !

Rest of world is dealing with job loses, why shouldn’t pro players also be impacted. Please.

Greedy wieners. Agree to the deferral. You are lucky not having pro-rated salaries forced down your throats. No fans, less revenue. Players can't ignore this and expect their full salaries without legitimate sacrifices. If I'm NHL I force them to do what you need in order for the team's to stay afloat. Otherwise, cancel the season and none of these pigs get their salaries.

I have friends who have permanently lost businesses due to The Covid Lock-downwind and these players are demanding their $Millions?!?! They should be happy to still be getting paid. If I was the owners, I would offer prorated salaries with zero retained or I would offer them 50% salary for the next two years with the rest paid out over the following 4 years. The players have zero perspective of what is happening to normal people. If they don’t accept this change, they will lose a lot of fans, including myself. I’m not saying I won’t watch hockey, I will just be enjoying it from home, and not going to games.

So to add perspective I will ask you a couple questions about your friend's businesses:

1. Did your friends have yearly contract agreements with their employees signed for a specific $/year? Do you have to re negotiate every few years with your boss?
2. Did your friends withhold hold salary from their employees during the pandemic? If they had, would it have saved their businesses?
3. Is this how you would treat your employees? Take it or leave it. Is this how you want your boss to treat you?

You have to realize how Collective Bargaining Agreements work and neither side are "normal people". Now is not the time to assume they should be treated as such. The fact that the agreement that the NHL want to amend was proposed BY THEM (the Billionaires) less than 6 months ago.

How about the players (the Millionaires) just say No, pay us what we agreed to, or we'll see you in court for breaking our contracts. Who has more to lose? As the owners of the billion dollar franchises if they are ready to shut the league down for good and lose their franchises for nothing.
