This.
Do you hate your country if you're going for a pee, lining up for a hot dog & beer or waiting to buy a programme during the anthem?

350,000,000 in the US. If 0.02% of the population dies of COVID thats 7,000,000 people.

Not saying everyone in the US will get it but when you think those 7M are real people with families and love ones, isn’t it worth taking it seriously?

- bloatedmosquito

Just looking at the arithmetic here.

Two percent (2%) of 350m does equal 7,000,000.

However, the 0.02% (two hundredths of one percent or 0.0002) that you used is 70,000 not 7,000,000.

The other poster said 99.98% survive which, if correct and if applied to 350m population would equal 70,000 dead, not 7,000,000.

I'm sorry dudes. Like some weird human centipede if you have dissenting opinions.

Lets get back on track.

I think the title was "Kevin Allen: The vaccine will allow us to fill up NHL arenas"

holy (frank)

350,000,000 x .2 = 70,000,000
350,000,000 x .02 = 7,000,000
350,000,000 x .002 = 700,000
350,000,000 x .0002 = 70,000

Indeed. 0.02% (which is what you used) is 70,000.

.02 is not the same as .02%.

The difference between 99.98% and 100% is .02% which is 70,000.

Bueller ... Bueller ... Bueller ...

Let's try this one more time:

0.02 is not the same as 0.02%.

2% is 0.02

0.02% is .00002

The key is the little thingy with the two circles with the forward slash between them.

And yes, 100% less 99.98% = 0.02% = .00002 x 350m = 70,000.

So what you are saying, with a 99.98% survival rate, only a maximum of 70,000 could die out of a population of 350M? Yet 252,000 Americans have died so far. Ok.

Here’s another way looking at it. If there are roughly 11.5M people have contracted COVID in the US so far. There has been roughly 250,000 deaths out of those infected.

100/11,500,000 = 0.0000087
0.0000087 x 250,000 = 2.17

Extrapolate that out to the total US population of 350M and you get roughly 7.6M potential deaths.

I’m not saying the entire population of the US will get the virus but it has the potential to kill a lot of people and that should be taken seriously.

Umm, you may not realize it, but you are the one who needs Buzztron help. Start with 350 million people and just assume 99% survive. That's 346.5 million survivors, and only 3.5 million dead. Now instead of 99% you should try 99.98%. Hmm, now we have just 70,000 dead. Math is hard. Feel free to debate whether 99.98% is an accurate number. But then leave the math to others.

I used to work for Home Depot and they used to play a daily video message from the guys who owned it, then a corporate chant, and then finish it off with rounding applauses before a shift. It was creepy as hell.

But it’s not true.

You have 11.5M infected to date. 250,000 of those people have died of the virus.

You guys are arguing that a maximum of 70,000 could die out of 350M. Yet you have already far surpassed that number with only 11.5M infections. What are you guys talking about? Unless you think the CDC are not accurately counting deaths... Then you are correct, I can’t argue with Trumpism.

As I said, you can debate whether 99.98% is correct. You might notice I never said this number is true. I'm simply saying that if you apply 99.98% on a population of 350,000,000 you get 70,000 deaths. Not the 7,000,000 calculation that you keep claiming is true. Ouch.
