Thanks Todd!
Don't care about every other team but would agree on Markstrom. Hopefully continues to play as he has. Stability in net has been missing from the Flames for sometime. I'm just curious how it impacts Ritter. Despite the 'he's a professional' mantra, it must piss him off knowing he's clearly going to be a backup.

Hello Hockey Fans!

There is some internet talk about Hanifin and Bennett for Carlo and Debrusk. Thoughts?

I'm not sold on Toffoli. His contract is fair, but they guy has only notched 35+ points in 3 seasons, 58 being his career high 4 years ago. He sure did put up good numbers to close out the season, but buying when there stock is so high is always a risk. Still I agree that this was Mtl's best offseason move.

I'm torn between who made the best move. Calgary got help where they needed it most with a great goalie, and Van only gave up a 3rd for a fantastic D. Both will be high impact players for their clubs.

Meh.

DeBrusk is good but VERY streaky + he's another LW, Carlo is good but not necessarily an upgrade on Hanifin, and that means Valimaki jumps straight up in a top 4 role.

Also Hanifin is cost controlled for another 4 years, whereas DeBrusk needs to be resigned right now and Carlo next year.

I'd hold on this trade if I were Treliving.

I mean, the only reason you would do this is if you are planning on trading JG.

Fun to talk about at least. Flames win the trade until playoffs roll around. Can’t speak for other Flames fans, but it would be painful watching Benny playing for a playoff-competent team. The Flames would lose that trade hard in hindsight and the fanbase would get sh!t on for years.

That said, I guess we still kinda owe Boston for Dougie.

I know we keep saying every year that this will be the year Bennett takes another step. But if he can find a way to play like he did in the playoffs during the regular season that would be huge for the team.

Benny is young and finding his feet you don’t trade him for an unsigned question mark and no you don’t trade hanifin for another unsigned d man this trade would be stupid for flames in every way

You called one of these players a "question mark" and the other you called "young and finding his feet".

My thing with Bennett is people keep saying “maybe this is his year to realize how he needs to play”. We’ve been saying that since his 2nd season and he’s yet to put it together. I’m fine with Bennett as he is: a mucker in the regular season and a pretty productive player in the playoffs. I think if Debrusk can be had for Bennett and Hanifin and they add Carlo or another person that can step in and fill Hanifin’s minutes, then they have to jump at it. I’m a big Hanifin fan and think he gets shorted by the fan base a lot. It seems guys like Bennett have a long rope and Hanifin has a fairly short rope.

Absolutely no shade on Bennett. I just enjoy pointing out when people use flagrantly biased framing

Even now, he's a wonderful complimentary piece that can seemingly supercharge a bottom-6 in the playoffs. Add a bit more offense consistently and dial in his defensive game to another level and he's pretty much the perfect 3rd line LW.

Juuso Välimäki [...] Any questions about how the long layoff would affect the 22-year-old have been answered by his play for Ives in Finland’s Liiga. The six-foot-two blue-liner has 17 points in 16 contests while averaging more than 23 minutes per night for his club, prompting one close observer from the Finnish media to tell me Välimäki — a smart player who makes a good first pass — is the best player at his position in the league.

I’d like to see him at C on the third line between Dube and Leivo/Simon/Looch.

This is one of the most interesting seasons coming up for the Flames. A lot of question marks with regards to the big guys that could indicate change if they regress even further so I’m curious what the lines will look like come January or February (or next fall).

Eh. Offensive production shouldn’t be the sole barometer for a player.

valimaaki is one reason why flames will have a top 5 defence this season... giordano, tanev leading the charge hanifin and valimaaki...

Why is Bennett a better option for the top line than Lindholm to start the season?

Chucky and Sammy will bring the best out of Johnny, giving him even more room.

I like this re jig.
With our dearth of right shot wingers, I have always wondered why JG has not played more on the right side. Apparently at BC he played there a bit.
If Vali can play top pairing minutes this year we will be in very good shape on the back end although Kylington passing cross ice on his off side scares the poop out of me.
Pelletier and Zary showing well after 2 night!!!!!

Never said it was. However, the numbers don't support the claim that Debrusk is a question mark while Bennett is young and finding his legs.
