Carol Schram: Getting Holtbys' tortoises into Canada is another return-to-play challenge The NHL is working diligently to come up with a schedule structure that will work as Covid-19 case numbers rise across North America and restrictions tighten. Meanwhile, the league and the players are fighting over money again, and the Holtby family is trying to navigate the paperwork challenges of getting their two tortoises across the border into Canada as Braden joins the Canucks.

Thanks Carol. If the NHL wants to start they better organize hybrid bubbles. Things will be bad form months not just weeks.

I wonder if we'll see increased skill sets like skating, shooting etc, with no games, from prospects?

I love the idea of an expanded playoffs.

How about an 82 game play in round, where the top 50% of the teams continue on into best of 7 divisional semi-finals?

Remember when the 1st round was best of 5?

I remember a time when we didn't care about players pets.

I'm just happy to finally have my woodpile filled.

Of course!

Remember when the only NHL games we got to watch were Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights?
Remember how we only got to see Toronto or Montreal games back then? Remember how they'd show the league president John Zeigler sitting in the crowd at every game, not being booed mercilessly?

Times sure have changed. Some good, some bad.

The NHL CBA sucks. Smallest of the big 4 North American sports by a long shot though.

I like the idea of the expanded playoffs for this year again. By May hopefully things will be looking up for sports and gathering in large numbers.

Increase the amount of teams that make it a 2nd time and it'll be very difficult to ever change it back. I don't feel too strongly about it, but I do think 16 teams is the way to go.

So my sister in law who tested positive for covid was told three days later she had to be tested again because her boyfriend his co-worker tested positive for covid.

They came back negative, including her 3 year old who tested negative twice now.

Start Jan 1 as planned with a 48 game reg season sched. No 'play in' round just the top 16 get in and play off. 4 -7 game series. period. Oh and get rid of the dumb fu*cking shootout as well lol

Thanks Carol, it'll be nice to have some hockey to talk about eventually but I'm starting to think the season might get canceled...

you have been so careful to say that you can't generalize about certain groups but throw around "the elites" ad nauseum. who are they? and why are they (in your mind) acting collectively?

and if they are not acting collectively, what exactly is your point? that the disparity between rich and poor is evil? are rich people evil by virtue of being rich?

- RealityChecker

Wow, still reading far more then I'm putting out there.
I never said anything about Elite collectivism.
When I use the word elite it isn't the rich, it's the super rich that I'm talking about.
The disparity is inheritantly evil, some of the super rich are very bad people.
We live in a world of corporationism where the welfare of the plebiscite is a secondary concern to profit, this has resulted in slave labor sweat shops overseas, we don't see our care about these people because of the profits it creates within our stock portfolio.
I'm a business owner, capitalist land owner with rental properties, I'm either lower middle class or upper lower class. I am not advocating for a free ride, I do however recognize the hypocrisy of our so called free country that is propped up by slave labor and exploiting peoples overseas. If you can't see and recognize it you are by definition, one of the sheep.

#turtlebuzz

The economic welfare of the super rich is part of the discussion around reopening the NHL, if the majority of them are still making money then it would serve their interest to keep the people happy at home watching TV and ordering online, unfortunately bezos doesn't own a hockey team and neither does gates so I can see those owners who are losing money not wanting to lose more money by having empty arenas and having to pay the players.

1. I was joking.

2. I quoted a political post.

3. I was joking.

4. The Turtles may have been the worst band of all time with the exception of Nickelback.
