The Canadian division is a total crapshoot. The only thing that's close to certain, is that Ottawa will finish dead last.
I think the Habs will be in the playoffs.

Way I see it, Leafs, Edmonton, and Calgary should all be locks. Leaving one spot to be fought over.
I still think that both Price and Weber are excellent, so it wouldn't surprise me if they beat out both Vancouver and Winterpeg. But right now, I do think I'd take them over Montreal.

I don't think the Leafs, Oilers and Calgary are untouchable. At all.
Every team in the Canadian division has big flaws, none of them stand out as being just that much better than everyone else.
And then there's the Sens, who won't be worth looking at for at least 2 more years.

I take it you mean playoffs within the division first, then semi’s made up of top two from each division? - Canada Cup
Lyrically easily among my favorite songs, seen it performed several times live, best was Dylan with the Band as his back up, second was Dylan with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as the backup, third was with Furthur a few summers ago.

I think there's 3 groupings. Top group of 3, middle group of 3, and 100 depths below everyone is Ottawa.
I do think the top 3 are a step above the middle 3. Not massively above, but still better. Edmonton does have garbage goaltending, though. Like, impressively bad. So that could easily drag them down.

Yeah but the Oilers still have so much scoring up front.... and adding Turris as a third line centre for little money was a good move imo.
They also have a few good young defensemen coming up in Bouchard, Bear, Broberg and Caleb Jones. How many of them can have an impact this year remains a mistery but it should give them a huge boost in the very near future.
I think they can mostly overcome the terrible goaltending if things go right and McDavid/Draisatl stay healthy.
As we did last year, we will rank the club’s top prospects over the next few weeks based on their progress in either the NCAA, CHL, Europe, ECHL or AHL and their potential to make the Leafs roster and make a contribution in the future.
Wtf prospects? How about every recent pick or contract. I’ll be back after the ECHL players or unsigned are finished lol

Ottawa Sens or possbly the Quebec Sens have a very decent talent pool that will be NHL ready pretty quickly. While the Habs are picking up decent players in the middle of the first round of the draft. Hard to argue that Brannstrom, Chabot, Sanderson, Stutzle will not make this a much better club soon. We'll see about the goalie but thats a big talent add this season, nothing close to that from the Habs.

If the 6th or 7th d-man in the depth chart is your biggest gripe, then things are not so bad. One add at the trade deadline could put the weakest d-man out of a job easily.

I don't disagree with Scabby...Montreal will surprise this year.
I see it this way
Tier #1: Leafs/Calgary.....have been getting seasoned and maturing over the last few years. Both with their issues, both seem to be addressed. I think they would be at the top.
Tier #2A: Edm/Van/Montreal....will be fighting in the middle, Van has been doing really well with the young guys/goaltending, Montreal is solid in net and D so their forwards have to gel, Edm...is always a crapshoot IMO, it either works or fails kinda like the Leafs the last few years but I think we stabilized with vets and maturing young guns...but also we get the edge in goaltending. ((frank) you Freddy haters)
Tier #2B: Winn...is like Edm to me but without the same level of firepower and goaltending is such a crap shoot.

For sure, but it'll still make things really difficult for them. Might wear them out late in the season.

They got good young players/prospects for sure. But they're still gonna finish at the bottom this season. Which will help them in getting another high pick.
And I really don't like their goalie. I was beyond happy that the Leafs didn't trade for Murray.
Suzuki is gonna be a good player for the Habs. I like him more than a lot of Ottawa's guys.

That’s about right. That said any team could get hot or cold. Sens will be big spoilers.

I told him it’s 50/50 whether there’s hockey. He wants to bet that there will and I said it doesn’t make any sense for me to bet against something I think might happen.
He’s not taking it well. Apparently, I’m old. - Canada Cup[/quote]
