I dislike the idea for the same reason you like it. It’s fun to play against legendary franchises, just as its fun to play against teams where the fan bases are just a bit more invested. In Canada, I think they most certainly are!
It’s fun when my Phils gets to play the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, or Cardinals. It’s fun to watch my Eagles occasionally battle the Steelers, Bears, and Packers. It’s fun to stay up late and see my 76ers have a classic showdown in LA against the Lakers. And frankly aside from my favorite games against our typical Rangers/Isles/Penguins/Devils rivals, hockey facing off against Canadian teams are among the most fun games all season as a Flyers fan.
An all Canadian division takes a lot of the *fun* out of it for quite a few of us.
Look, I get why they’re doing it. Objectively, it makes sense. And yeah, I’m likely going to love seeing a ton of games against most of my traditional rivals (boooooo taking away Pittsburgh from me!), but it’s the games against Canadian teams which are among my favorite change ups to those all season long.
I don’t think I’m alone? Maybe I am. I dunno. But I doubt it. |

Kevin if it wasn't for the Tkachuk injury last year in the playoffs, the Flames would've beat Dallas. Brodie is a marginal upgrade on D for the Maple Laughs. It was so frustrating watching him play the last couple years as a Flames fan with all the give aways and own goals. Montreal is a joke of a team if it wasn't for the expanded play in tournament they would've been eating poutine on their couches. |
