I think LL will be more motivated to bring back his guy Matt Martin. They both could probably had for close to the same money and Brassard is the better value, but LL will want to keep the band together on the 4th line. If he can trade Boychuk and Ladd retires, which I'm hearing, then Brassard could also be an option.

I hope you are hearing that from excellent sources. Because unless Ladd's contract was incredibly front-loaded, then he would be walking away from many millions of dollars.

There’s a zero percent chance he’s retiring unless Mallon and Ledecky are paying him off the difference and risking whatever contract they have with the NHL. In other words, not happening.

One could reasonably infer.

But my God... it’d be absolutely (frank)ing wonderful if Buster were right.

Not sure but Ladd being 35 even if he retires The Islanders would still have to carry his cap hit so retirement isn't going to happen unless its an injury related and he's exiled to Lou's Robidas Island. If this is what happens than Ladd gets paid and the Islanders can use the LTIR cap relief on moneys spent over the cap in accordance with the CBA rules regarding this.

The cap hit is carried if the player is signed at 35 or over, not retiring at 35.

Thank you, I knew 35 years old was a key age but didn't realize the player had to be 35 when signing for this to be in play.
I'm sure he will be retiring on Lou's Ladd Lagoon before next season starts.

#Isles release says Boychuk's career is over, not that he's retiring. Will try to get some clarification but assume this means he's going to be on IR, either long-term or regular, until his contract runs out after 2021-22.

Me too. IMO, he will be missed, even if his cap hit was high.

Obviously He suffered some vision impairment from the injury.
Gonna miss Him. He was a warrior.

Next up Andrew Ladds Knee exam.

Sad to see Johnny Boychuk have to retire like this. That’s got to be a tough pill to swallow. He was really great to have on the Isles the past several years. I enjoyed watching him play and he represented the team with class. Hard worker and class guy. I hope he sticks around the organization in some capacity.

Agreed and I hate to say this but if it were to happen ever it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Insane. I believe he’ll be missed more then some think also.

This will work out ok for Boychuk and the Islanders.. he will still get his $6 mill a year the next 2 years. He got hurt so much when he played the last couple of years and truthfully if he was 100% healthy he wouldn't have started this season. He will definetely be around the team helping the young kids in practice instead of sent to AHL. He just built a house in GC so not going anywhere is my guess.

Isles will obviously get his $6mill in cap room when he is moved to LTIR. I would imagine that perhaps insurance picks up some of this contract.. not sure on that.. curious if anyone knows

p.s.- I know u guys said it somewhat tongue in cheek but I would not be shocked to see if Ladd announcement is next.

Edit- Obviously, I hope that he has not long term issues with his eye going forward too.

Not tongue in cheek from me at all. He needs to be jettisoned to the LTIR .

Then Barzal signs an 7 mil. 3 to 5 year deal. After that, Hoffman at 2 years at 5 mil?
