When you say sign OR trade, do you mean sign AND trade?

I don't have sources, but my guess is the Boychuk retirement now gives the Isles the cap space to actually sign Barzal. Up until now, all discussions have been conceptual. Now they are actually real. So he'll be signed shortly. He's not being traded. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

No rush to sign Barzal with the season in limbo. With no sign there is a season there is no sign any significant deals are imminent.

The Islanders just went the furthest they have gotten in the Stanley cup playoffs since 1993. Why in the world would they want to trade Barzal?

That being said, I offer Barzal a 3 to 5 year deal. No more the 7.5. While he is hands down ones the brightest spots on this team, he still has a lot of growing to do. If I were Lou I sit him down and offer him the 3 years. I advise what he needs to do to get to the double digit numbers.

If Barzal chooses not to sign and goes to arbitration, sign him to the arbitration number and let the year play out.

Since JVR + Ghost wasn't enough for Gaudreau, then I'm wondering if Gaudreau comes to NYI? It's still pretty close to his hometown. Maybe Barzal goes to Calgary in a sign AND trade. Flames could always add Ghost in a separate trade. Like maybe Monahan for Ghost?

Well you have 31 other people to work with all season you cant be pissing off people you HAVE TO WORK WITH. So offer sheets have to be very very careful because once your blacklisted no one will want to trade with you meaning more you have your team and prospects and that's it outside getting ripped off and only ripped off.

Offer sheets look lovely to fans and imagine things going down and this and that but they never happen. Or barely ever and really they are very small.

It doesn't mean there isn't lots of talk. Ek doesn't predict trades. He just reports what he's hearing from sources. So if he is saying Barzal could be on the move then I believe it's a possible scenario.

C'mon...I think people are getting tired of the "click bait" type of write-ups on this site. Barzal is probably in the top 5 most unlikely to be traded category.
