I think there’s a lot of size bias going against Gryz right now. I find it ironic you mentioned he has a limited defensive ceiling and then later in the blog mention he had the lowest ga/60 on the team. He has it all except size, people would be drooling over him if he was 4” taller. He deserves a long look with Mac on the top pair. I’m definitely in favor of rolling with what we got, let the kids sink or swim and address the issue at the TDL if need be |

Did you not watch the series with Tampa? Our smaller d-men were pushed all over the ice leaving the crease as a home for the Tampa forwards. Love Gryz and think he will more than adequately fill the void left by Krug, but he's not top pairing material. |

Trust me I don’t want a defense full of 5’9” guys but you can’t force a guy who can’t keep up into the role. I’d love it if OEL was coming through that door but I’m taking Gryz on the top pair over Chara, Lauzon, Zboril and realistic targets like weegar. Gryz and Macs underlying numbers are gross together. Like almost Werenski Jones good. I think you have to see if there’s something real there |

Keep Chara in a limited role and don't expect him to play top-pair minutes. He still has value even if his footspeed is lacking. |

Right now the Bruins need a couple kids to take a big step forward. Hopefully Jake grows his game. Would like to see Studnicka take a step forward as well.
We still haven't fully seen what Kase can bring to the table. With time to develop with Krejci the forward group is fine. Re-sign Chara and call it a off-season.
Bruins seem happy with Zborils progression so hopefully that pans out. |

Realistically- this is what we're going with into the season as we have no cap space. Let the kids play and if an addition is needed at the deadline do it. Would be nice if Lauzon or Zboril take that step forward because looking ahead- we need a top guy and are going to have to find the $$$ to bring him in and need the younger players to play at a more affordable price tag to balance the cap.
As for Kase? Don't hold your breath...

I think the answer for a top 6 comes from within and most likely not in time for this groups window. Kase has lacked consistency throughout his pro career and seems like he can't really finish(classic Bruin really). I think he's a 3rd liner along with Smith.
I don't think Senyshyn is going to take the next step. So far his performance hasn't inspired much confidence for that. Perhaps it comes from someone like Studnikca or Jakob Lauko?
As for D. How do you even answer the Tampa question? They abused the Bruins mobile defense, they abused Dallas' bigger and more mobile defense. They abused everyone. That team is all time and should have more than one cup already. On paper, the only thing beating them is the 1-2 punch of time and the salary cap. But if the Columbus series in 19' teaches anything you have to play the games. |

bruins only need one thing, a #1 defensman, a legit second line winger, and a goalie that wont quit on the team. Thats it. |

at this point, I thing the young kids have taken all the steps forward they can, and what we're left with is too many bottom 6 players.

You don't think McAvoy has a chance of filling that D-man slot?

I would love another experienced top 4 d-man and even a better 2 line winger but this line up I'm not overly upset about:
Marchy, Bergy, Pasta
Debrusk, Krec, Smith (hey, I'm happy as a pig in poop if both my 2nd line wingers score mid-20s goals)
Stud, Coyle, Kase
Kuraly, Fredrick, Wags
Lauzon, McAvoy
Gryz, Carlo
Chara, Miller/Clifton (platoon based upon opponent/desired skill set) |
