Carol Schram: Can the Canucks build on their bubble success in the 2020-21 NHL season? After being the last Canadian team standing in the 2020 NHL playoff bubble, the Vancouver Canucks will have to prove it wan't a fluke when the new season gets underway. J.T. Miller and Thatcher Demko should help make that happen.

Thanks Carol.

Hopefully the coaching staff has figured out better systems, to provide the goaltending and defenseman a bit of relief.

The collapsing forwards wasn't a very successful set up, on the defensive side of things, nor on the transition side of things.
I think this will be Demko's coming of age season, whenever it may take place.

I for one am not too worried about who we lost in the offseason. It's not like Tofolli was a difference maker or play driver for the 10 reg season and 8 playoff games he suited up for. i thought we were a pretty good team before Benning picked him up. As for Tanev leaving, JB replace him with a younger faster and more offensive minded dman. Troy Stecher was outmatched and out muscled pretty much every shift in the 2 and a half rounds in the post season. Actually happy they moved on from him. Jacob Markstrom leaving was tough until I saw who JB brought in to replace him. Holtby is no slouch. Only 2 subpar seasons under his belt during his otherwise successful stint in DC. I also think our young guys (EP, QH, BB and ZM) are gonna get better and are gonna be hungry to get back into the playoffs after getting a good taste of what it takes to succeed. Don't forget we still have the silent assasin Louie Eriksson to get us over the hump. The only thing I'm worried about is if the season doesn't get going soon, Jake Virtanin might hit one too many drive thru's and hit 250 lbs.

Thanks Carol.

Van should bring Tryamkin back next season after the NHL season that's not going to happen. Going to need some players that have played over the past year.

Thanks Carol, I’m hopeful that when things do finally get going again Demko will be able to improve marginally on his .905S% and 3.06GAA from last year and Holtby can at least hold close .900 (.897 last year). Holtby is likely to be seeing much more rubber this year and a sub .900 S% isn’t a recipe for success.

This week may very well produce a timeline for the start of the 20/21 NHL season. Postponing training camps until after the holidays has to be considered. CoVid is still in charge.

It's funny they're still referring to it as the 20/21 season

The lockout shortened2012-13 seasons started in January and the 04-05 season was canceled in its entirety.
Go figure.

I dislike Darren Dreger. Never thought he was much of an insider. Never seemed to hit on much outside of the leafs. He knew some guys in leaf’s management. So what? If that makes you an insider then Donna is an insider.

Is his Twitter feed any good? His post above seems like an obvious assessment more than inside info.

What is it about him you dislike? I mean, he’s pretty Vanilla. Hard to say he is likeable/un-likeable no?

Here's some inside info for Dreger 116K new cases in the last 24 hrs in the US. Without fans in the seats there will be no season. I wonder what the daily new cases will be in Dec, Jan, Feb.........

Yup, Dave Nonis is his cousin.

He was a Nonis booster in both Vancouver and Toronto. Aside from getting some information due to his cousin he doesn't really add much?

One of the odd things about Goaltending is more shots per game tend to lead to higher save percentages. The shot quality in Van will be different. He has a couple of technical issues to work on but I like his chances under Clark.

Here's a decent read from a couple of years ago if you're into technique.

The guy is a puppet. You don’t remember his role in the Sedin to leafs fiasco? Canucks accused him of tampering on behalf of the leafs the year Burke went to Sweden to sign the twins for “a wheelbarrow full of money”.

The canucks filed a formal NHL tampering complaint on Dreger. I think he might have been fined for it...

Is that a reason to “dislike” him? I don’t follow him on Twitter, or watch TSN, so he’s really irrelevant for me. If Mini hadn’t posted his tweet, I would never have known it existed.

Fair enough I guess. At least you have a “reason”.

My only concern is that Holtby has lost his job several times in the past few years. Yes, he won it back, but that sounds like a growing level of inconsistency, which this team can’t really afford given how much they relied on goaltending last season.

I looked it up and he was not fined for his involvement. I don’t have a problem with managers being accused of tampering but when someone who is supposed to be impartial gets that involved... the guy needs to stay in his lane.
