Very interesting, thanks.

All my buddies and I are pretty basic when it comes to beer. We bring the same one whenever we go to each others places so I think that shouldn’t be an issue. I use to experiment with a lot of beers when I was younger but now I just stick with what I like.

I like the lines going to the basement that’s a great idea. It’s not a very big space but I want to put a wine fridge and sink in as well so if I can get away with just having the lines going through the cabinets that will free up some space.

Running to the basement adds a bit of complexity (and price).

The lines have to be chilled - otherwise, all you'll get out of the taps is foam.

So you need to get a machine that chills the lines - IIRC, it was about an extra $600 (about 8 years ago), and you have to get a pro to install it - or at least I did. It also makes cleaning the lines a bit more of an ordeal.

Edit: but it sounds like you'll have a kick-ass set-up. You'll have to provide pics when it is complete.

If I had to do the renovations again, we'd put something like that on the main floor. We have a perfect spot for it, although we'd have to board up a window.

Do you use yours on a regular basis, or is it too much of a pain in the ass?

Had immense fun for the first 3 years.

Used it regularly to sparely for the next 3.

Have literally not used it for the last 2 years, but I had a lot going on.

I will revive it for next summer, but it will mean getting a pro in and re-running the pipes.

Mostly it's a franking hassle going around and buying the kegs - you can't just walk into your beer store and pick them up (you have to go to specific ones there's two or three in Toronto - or hit your local microbrewer).

We are adding on to the back of our house. So when all the walls are exposed I think that’s when I’ll run all the lines. Having to replace those lines will be a female dog though if I ever need to. That’s beyond my expertise.

I have a couple buddies that are in refrigeration so hopefully they can chill the lines.

I'd think it would be easier to just put the keg fridge directly below the countertop where you install the taps, no? that way you only have to run 2 feet of hose

I have a feeling that if I had one, I'd wake up one Sunday morning, the tap would sputter, and I would feel incredible pride and shame simultaneously at the realization that I just drank 20L of beer in 48 hours

It’s not a huge section, and we’re putting a sink and wine fridge in as well. So if I can get away with just having the lines run through the cabinets and hide the giant keg, I think it would look nice and clean.

That might be the worst part. Always having cold beer ready at all times could get dicey.

To enjoy the best quality product, Bottled beer should be consumed within 3 months after bottling - if the product is kept in somewhat ideal conditions. A keg would allow you to drink one 16oz mug of beer a day, which equals about 4 months worth...? Is that right?
I expected the volume would be overkill and a waste, but that’s doable without any stretch...if you drink a beer a day, which I do not. Quality is pretty much it for me, so product limitations would be tough to overcome.

A company in our industry, who are also into manufacturing fire fighting equipment went completely off the board and designed a commercial keg accessory that would draw 40% more of the beer that would normally be left in a keg using traditional equipment. Ended up being quite the little side project for them for a stretch of time. Not sure if they still do it.

Do you remember when he got a shutout in his 1st NHL start? Poor kid, he peaked after 1 start

All this beer talk has me thirsty, might have to pick up some beer on the way back from the autoshop

I’m limiting myself to one big beer on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, only. I’ve gained 10 pounds since this Covid thing started which is actually my playing weight when I was a young lad - but muscle vs flubber, then to now . Time to take this seriously for a bit.

What I remember most is that Babs wanted to keep McElhinney and Dubas wanted his boy Sparks to be the backup. Was this the start of the Babs/Shanny feud or did it start before that?

I think Babs days were numbered when he had to fly to Arizona to apologize to matthews. Probably a bigger tiff then publicized.

I walked 3 km today in the snow and my quads were killing me when I got home

Gotta get back into shape, I've put on a good 10-15 since the start of covid too
