The Gretch stole Thanksgiving, is prepared to steal Christmas and will definitely not allow fans in the seats. So I don't know if the NHL will forge forward without some kind of attendance at games. 2020 is not a year for optimism when we have lock-down loonies in charge! And 2021 will not see relief til spring!

It seems like the Red Wings haven't played in 5 years. I know they stink but I still miss watching them. Those uniforms are beautiful. I don't care if we lose every game in a shortened 48 game season. I just want to watch the Red Wings again. đź‘Ť

I’m right there with you. The salad has less “dead lettuce” and some fresh ingredients. At least exciting to see what’s gotten better

I was looking at the Yotes roster and find it surprising that they have not made any move yet to relieve their cap situation. I spouse that any cap relief trades are coming now at an extraordinarily high price that the Yotes just are not ready to pay. I am sure they would like to move the Kessel and Stephen contracts, but joining either of them to a young player, prospect or pick is something they are refusing to do. The only trade I see them winning in is to trade one of their best goalies. There has been much speculation as to where they would end up, but attaching a big contract player with on of those is not what any team except a couple bottom dwellers could afford, and Kessel won't go there......That leaves Stephan's contract.
Would the Wings be interested in any other player along with Stephan to trade for and what would they give in return? We really do not need a goalie at this point, as we are set for the Ex-draft the way it is. Would Stephan + Chychrun for Glendenning, Rasmussen + Cholo work??? Is AZ that desperate to reduce expenditures?

There are still hints that OEL could head to Boston. They worked hard on that deal for a while

Has anyone here heard the latest Tampa-Detroit trade Rumour? Zetterberg's zombie contract for Johnson and a 1st?

That is fascinating. Z would give them a good chunk of relief. Thanks for that!

It's interesting. It makes sense for both teams. Tampa gets to go over the cap by 6 mil so they can re-sign their RFAs. They'd still likely have to trade Killorn to be cap compliant.

The dream scenario for Detroit would be for Seattle to pick Johnson in the expansion draft. They still have to hit the cap floor.

So Yzerman would essentially be buying himself a 1st round pick with the Zetterberg zombie contract. Well more like an early 2nd rounder. But still a positive trade nonetheless. Asset management 101. đź‘Ť

Yes he does. I'm just wondering if a prospect is included in this deal. Maybe wishful thinking on my part. I really like Barre-Boulet. đź‘Ť

You’ve been an advocate for that kid for a while. If he shows up it’s another Greiss-Greiss baby moment and we need to get you tested by the Jedi council...”Much sarcasm I sense in you....”

Ok so since I can't sleep I did a little digging. It turns out this isn't really an actual source. I think it's a case of one site ripping off the other and then this guy on YouTube running with it.

I believe I jumped the gun here. My apologies. Yes I really do like Barre-Boulet. I think he's NHL ready right now. đź‘Ť

I respect you digging into it. It’s a fascinating proposal. I really do like the thinking behind it

I like the thinking behind selling Z’s contract, but don’t like the specific proposed deal for a couple of reasons:

- As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t think Johnson is a particularly good fit for Detroit. To me it’s the AA problem all over again—okay offense, terrible defense. Detroit’s middle six is already horrible defensively and TJ would have no way to hide. I do think Johnson can still be a useful NHLer but he needs to be somewhere like Dallas, Carolina, Columbus, NYI, etc. that already has a good defensive structure in place.

- Tampa’s first round pick is very likely to be somewhere in the 20s overall.

Basically this deal is buying a late first round pick at the price of a declining, overpaid middle six forward who may not be an especially good fit for our personnel and has four years left on his deal. That’s too high a price IMO. I think Tampa would need to add more to make this palatable.

Now, if instead of Johnson, Tampa offered one of Palat or Killorn, and maybe an additional pick or prospect? I think that would be more worth considering.

Maybe this is why TB would have to include a prospect....Maybe Barre-Boulet and a 2nd would be more appropriate..... Stay tuned, TBD!!!

We may have competition from Columbus with Dubinski's contract. But I am sure they would want Killorn, not Johnson.
Dubi's contract for Killer and a 2nd, or a B prospect.

I did not know Killorn’s nickname. That’s awesome. Like a junk yard dog! Nice chime in H2

I like this trade! But yes, Johnson is no longer an ideal get unless Stevie can retain half his salary and send him elsewhere for a minor pick. I see too many bodies in the forward core. Unless the plan has our prospects staying in Europe til near the end of the season and after the TDL there is room for them to have some NHL experience after Stevie moves out a couple vets to play-off teams.

I would rather this deal be for Killer, as he would be easier to move at the deadline and has a shorter and less expensive contract.
But then again, maybe the TJ deal will have to have some minor salary retention if JBB only adds 1 sweetener. Then TJ would be easier to flip to a cup contender that needs depth at C.

Actually, Killer would also keep some of the pests off of Larkin if put on his line.......

I'd keep our top line intact. It's very effective. The key for the Red Wings this season will be to stop getting our faces caved in when our #1 line isn't on the ice. It's been mismatch central. Adding Ryan and Namestnikov helps to give Blashill less excuses from the mainstream hockey media. I'm sick of the "no talent" crutch.

I was a bit excited last night but I went down the wrong rabbit hole. I don't believe there's any real smoke to this rumour even though some of it makes sense. If Yzerman can acquire Barre-Boulet then I'll be excited! đź‘Ť
