stole the 48 games stuff from andy strickland

There will be no season.

I figured for some time now that it would be a 48 game season starting Feb 1. Now players and owners have to agree on how much of a cut they want to share of the salary. I see Taylor Hall paid 8 mil to play 48 games and shake my head.

I am not a fan of an all Canadian league at all. My team is the only team in the entire league that will be required to play half of their away schedule in a time zone of 3 hours difference.

I for one am a fan of come back in September and scrub the 20/21 season.

They need to feed NBC something to get some kind of new deal signed, especially if the NBA plays otherwise. It’s the only reason he got the basket case owners to sign on in the first place.

Yup all about the money. Tor had a safe smart offseason as did the Canucks. I hope they don't try to go for Hoffman as Ek says . Play out the year and roll the dice next year.

I still don't see the 2 sides working it out but this is the only reason why it would happen. To burn the last year on the current NBC deal so they can get to the new deal quicker. NHL has to get out of the way of Olympics so that will be the # of games they back into.

We will play 24 only in our time zone. That sucks

48 games is better than no games.

If the players are really pushing for no reduction in salary than the league should have an actual 80 game schedule model available to fit the time frame. It would be an absolute killer for travel and back to backs and 4 games in 6 nights. But it COULD be done.

BUT

I would rather see 48 games without burning down the league and then have the expansion draft etc, a regular offseason and then a full season next Fall.

Owners would probably question the travel costs and not give a damn about the Canucks belly aching. We will suck it up and play it out.

Are they actually going to call it expanded playoffs or is it another 'play in and stay in the lottery' type of situation?

I'm pessimistic they'll actually pull off a 48 game season but good luck. I pretty much stopped giving a poop while I was coaching 14U and watching my kid play hockey; but now the state has shut that down until January 2nd.

As for Canucks fans whining about all of these road trips. One word for you - doubleheaders!! This has previously been reported here. So a team like Vancouver could fly to Montreal, play a game in the morning, rest in the afternoon, play another game in the evening. Then move on to Toronto and Ottawa, do the same thing. Or Boston can fly to Dallas and hammer out 2 games so they never have to return. This has been debated, but Ek did confirm that doubleheaders were part of the solution.

The NHL could even do a marketing campaign called doubleheader Saturdays. One day ...30 hockey games. Would be so cool.

Not a 99% certainty. But a 99% likelihood. So Ek is 99% sure that there is a better chance than not that there will be a 48 game season. 51%, folks.
