Thomas Townsend: The Goaltender Dilemma - Thomas Townsend
So there is this rumor management is being quiet that the cbj will be operating on an internal budget.......should we be alarmed on how Jarmo deals in the future? |

I would like to see Korpisalo as the clear cut #1 and let him continue to build on last years playoffs. Elvis is worthy of being the starter as well so I would explore the trade market with one or the other. The Caps have to be scrambling right about now, Chicago, Detroit are really in need of a solid guy. Korpisalo is 1.2 mill cheaper and another reason I would keep him however his cap hit makes him more desirable in a trade. Also 6.8 mill is not terribly bad for two starters, unlike Vegas with 12 mill on the books. I do think Fleury will end up in Washington or Chicago if Cap can be worked out. Let's go Jackets and fire that cannon till ya wear it out. Nice blog Thomas, good work. |

What ya gonna do for a goalie Henry, go after Elvis or Joonas. They both fit the bill age wise and would make your team better. There is also a Zamboni driver up in Toronto that has a perfect record that may be of interest

Stevie signed a goalie, Griess. He is a stopgap on a team that is not going to make the play-offs. Wings do not need a better goalie like Elvis or Korpi, until they have a better team. So in the meantime we will see if one of the prospects develop into a great back stop on a better Red Wing team, in a couple of years. Until then I'll be cheering for the Jackets in the play-offs. |

I agree there is no rush at the moment and you are going to very happy with Greiss. With the shortened season Greiss can easily be you number one with Bernier mopping up. The Jackets really are a solid team and Torts has learned lots in his day and is now getting the job done. |

Thompson, Mountour, Mittelstadt, Hutton, Okposo - 3rd GM's the charm
I sure hope you are just joking around here. Texier is going to be a star. Thompson and Mittlestadt have value but Okposo is washed up and overpaid, Montour is fringe and Hutton is a great team mate but his puck stopping has declined. I would never do this deal if I was Columbus. |

Jets fan here, I come in peace.
Sorry but I don't see how there's any goalie dilemma for the Jackets, they have two good goalies and the trend in the NHL is to run a more even tandem split with goaltending as to not burnout the "starter" and this season(if it happens) with a compressed schedule it's going to be even more important to have two sold goalies, Columbus is in an enviable position with Korpisalo and Merzlikins. |

We respect your coming in peace, fellow brother in failure.
I'm also in your boat, especially since a condensed season is gonna necessitate that even more |

You are absolutely correct but the big problem I have is owning Korpisalo in a keeper league and I don't want him sharing, lol

Foligno = Okposo at this point
One could argue Thompson and Mittelstadt could still become a "star" just as much as Texier might, Hutton is a back-up who needs a change of scenery and Montour would do great in C-Bus and is on a good prove-it deal in a short year.
I honestly think it's a wash. But I would add a pick and prospect from Buffalo's side to make it happen. |

Foligno doesn't equal Okposo at this point.. Lol
Okposo has two years left after this one and he's a cap dump, the Sabres would have to compensate a team to take him and it would be pretty costly, Foligno is a UFA and isn't a cap dump, this trade is heavily slanted in the Sabres favor and the Jackets would never do it. |

Trade 1 or both, seems the coaching/team style lead to pretty good stats regardless of who’s in the nets.

I know it's a stale blog, but IMO the CBJ got put in the easiest division of the four made for this season.
Tampa is obviously #1, at least until we see how they get under the salary cap.
After that you can put Dallas, Carolina, Nashville and the CBJ in a blender, but IMO the CBJ are on the top of that list. I'd list them CBJ, Carolina, Dallas, Nashville.
Chicago, Florida, and Detroit will not be playoff contenders IMO.
Take your mask off and drop the puck. |

Jackets are blessed with two quality guys that could start on most teams. I firmly believe that the days of the clear #1 with a backup that plays maybe 20 are long gone, especially in a compressed schedule. There's no other position in the game that has this mindset, so it shouldn't apply to the most important one. Your "backup" has to be able to competently carry the load if needed, not just spell the starter in B2Bs. Trading one of these guys would be dumb, return dependent of course. |
