Anthony Travalgia: Where will the Jets play home to start 2021? Will the Jets be able to start the season in Winnipeg when hockey begins on Jan. 13?

As I mentioned in the last thread. I think them playing at University of North Dakota makes the most sense. When restrictions ease up they can come back to Winnipeg. This could potentially be a golden opportunity to expand some of the Canadian teams fan bases in other markets.

I think they will play in USA. Players won’t do bubble again especially for this length of time, provinces won’t risk importing Covid from player movements.

The city doesn’t really matter UND maybe but Covid risk on a campus is higher (right?). Maybe grand forks, but I think my favorite place for them if Winnipeg isn’t an option is Atlanta. Lots of good fans there that we can remember and share some pride with.

This is politics at play, these dumb fu*k politicians that lead these provinces are concerned about the optics of wrongfully shutting down minor hockey while the NHL is allowed to carry on, it's not a good look for the premiers but the reality is those who have money (like NHL team owners) get what they want/need before the rest of the world, that's the way the world has always worked whether society likes it or not.

These premiers should welcome a bit of economic activity(hotels, food, transportation, security, etc.) in their provinces and something to keep their citizens (the ones who are hockey fans)that they've pretty much locked in their homes with these restrictions some entertainment.

Just my $0.02.

I’ve been locked in at home this whole time, and I can say I’m not going anywhere near a Jets game until we’ve all gotten the stabby stabby. I’d rather have the whole league playing out of a one arena bubble per division than random buildings with low capacity all over the place. No sense risking league personnel and people for what will likely be almost 0 profit.

That, and a bubble(s) situation makes it easy for me to plan around games. It’s a lot harder for Washington and Winnipeg to play at the same time when they’re both sharing with a bunch of other teams lol

Atlanta would be a joke because even if Georgia allows fans they would only draw under 500 fans per game. Atlanta can't support hockey and the Jets and other teams would be at very high risk of getting C-19 from this backward state.

Atlanta never had a drawing issue the first go round. The second time, ownership just didn’t care. It got even worse when the Thrashers sold the first time, because all the money went to the Falcons

Attendance at games is almost irrelevant in the circumstances. Few other teams will have fans and the games will hopefully return to Winnipeg mid-season. Unfortunately for those who become infected because of this (if they play south) but the main consideration of the league is whether it will be permitted by authorities in enough areas to stage a season. Players will be at greater risk from hockey than COVID due to age, health and medical care - but can carry it around the country efficiently. It will be others who pay the health price.

Who knows, as of yet, where the teams will play - Canada or the USA?

I just think if one Canadian team plays south of the border, they all do.

Will all provinces be shut down, or just some? If not all provinces shut down, see teams from provinces on lock down playing in Saskatoon, Hamilton, Quebec City, Oshawa, Regina, etc. to start the season.

But one team from Canada has to play in the USAm either they all play there or they don't play, I say.

my thoughts on the 2 Jets prospects for the Fins last night,

Heinola,
played as you'd expect, good and steady. He should look good though this is his third World Juniors and he has been playing against men for a while now. Heinola doesn't jump at you but he seems to always make the right play and stick to stick passes. he ran around a bit on the pk but recovers quick and is usually in the right spot. he is far and away their best D. Topi Niemila (spelling ) got player of the game for the Fins but he is truly one dimensional, good on PP and offensive but made poor decisions in his own zone and lost every puck battle.

Nikkanen,
I have not seen him a lot so take this for what its worth. he is a big man, and used his size well to provide a screen on the PP. I though he had a good stick and positionally was sound. I know its been reported he was clocked as the fastest Fin in a straight line but sadly he doesn't play fast. he does not have a quick first step or is able to change pace and pivot quick, this will need to improve to be successful at the NHL. overall I thought he was ok and I was not discouraged.

Granlund and Haula both signed in Nashville, thought either one of those two would've been a nice addition to the Jets.

Chances are if the players don't want to be in the bubble, they also probably don't want to relocate cities for an undisclosed period of time. Hopefully they can make this work in Canada, 3 game home-stands to reduce travel, and daily testing for all players/staff. I would hope that certain privileges would be assured to their travels based on how well the NHL has handles Covid to date. It should be theirs to lose.

Only watched the first period so didn't get a feel for either players, but I'll have to admit, was hoping that they would stand out more. Need to see more of them, maybe when they reduce rosters.

Might have watched more of game if they would turn down the damn crowd noise. How aggravating!

No fans that I know of, and still one can barely hear the play-by-plan man and color-man. Don't know why they want so much fake noise!

They won’t really help us. AA can’t defend and doesn’t drive play that much. He’s a Connor-lite.
Vatanen is just kinda bad.

Washington: Gets capable middle-six forward with a knack for playing up with elite tier players in a pinch for league minimum.

Winnipeg: Signs a 36 year old AHL player to block Harkins.

So your positive attitude still needs some work there Rexy. Let’s not sweat a guy who going to play 7 min a night.

Why is primary and secondary being pointed out now for assists ? Are people actually making a bigger deal
About primary? Do people
Not realize they are equally important? I’m sorry but if you do all the work to get the puck out of your zone and make multiple plays to pass it up to someone who dishes off quickly to someone else who scores how is that more significant?

Secondary assist are super inconsistent in their quality and impact. They aren’t worth as much because so much can happen in the time between A2 and A1 leading to the goal.

This is a load of crap and actually contradicts any value you put on being able to exit the defensive zone.
I can’t believe this is a thing and further proves how little some people actually watch or understand the game. I’m not singling you out but anyone pushing this logic.

Also,
Like these same inconsistencies don’t exist from primary assist to goal.
This has to be a joke.

People have been making a bigger deal out of primary assists for awhile now, I agree with your thoughts on it though, so moronic that secondary assists are pretty much thought less of by some or used against a player to minimalize their contributions with some nonsense like 'only half their assists are primary assists.

I mean where does it end? Will we start calling and separating goals into categories like tip in, bounce off my ass, or straight shot? And then say said player is not actually that good because 20 of his 30 goals have these lesser values. I mean common already. People need to stop.
