Seriously what's the deal with John Marino? Did Rutherford think he was signing Dan Marino?

I think if it was available, the easiest route would be to dump Petterson to anyone who would take him and use those cap $$ to sign Mike Hoffman

That, or trade Dumo for a young, cheap asset (preferably a forward) and then use those $$ to sign Hoffman

Jake Sid Hoffman
Zucker Geno Rust
McCann Jank Kapanen
Sceviour Blueger Tanev

Letang Dumo
Matheson Marino
Ceci/Rikkola/Ruhwedal/POJ

OR

Jake Sid Hoffman
Zucker Geno Rust
?? (Dumo Trade) McCann Kapanen
Sceviour Blueger Tanev

Letang Petterson
Matheson Marino

I talked to Mike last night and he is excited to line up with Robert Thomas and Jaden Schwartz, so lets move on from this signing with the ice cold Penquins.

Huh? That is the basic 2nd contract every young top 4 defenseman gets. And when a guy like Marino gets it who almost everyone thinks is better than a #4 already, you probably got a bargain.

Don’t see the Pens making any kind of major move for the reasons stated. Just think GMJR was giving Yohe a “scoop” so he had something to write about since things have been rather cut and dried so far with training camp. Can’t wait for the puck to drop. LGP!

Looks like JR will once again be shocked to learn that the salary cap is a thing.

Assuming the RFA signing attempt would be after this coming season, they would need their 2022 1st round pick, not their 2021 1st round pick due to the draft taking place before the signing period, right?

Pens are on track to miss the playoffs, I actually think they’ll be competing with New Jersey for bottom in the conference. Old, slow core with questionable defense and unproven goalie. Oh and management.

I just assumed he was talking about adding this "impact" player in 22-23. Pens only have 46mil committed. They'd still have to sign Malkin....or.....maybe they won't.

Obviously there aren't many impact players who hit UFA in their mid 20's, but you never know. Seems like bridge deals are becoming more of a "thing". Looks like Barkov will be up that season. Maybe he wants a change of scenery.

Crosby, Malkin and Letang are the only regulars over 30. Crosby and Malkin are still PPG players.

The weakness is the bottom 6 and bottom d pair. It's possible they will miss the playoffs, but it won't be for the lack of speed.

Pierre Luc Dubois could be available in 2 years.

He's available now haha, too bad we don't have the assets for him now. Obviously we'd have to send Pettersson their way but that's someone I'd trade Petts for. Were just lacking the additional stuff. Who knows I'd still throw an offer.

I'm not worried at all about the bottom pair. I think we're all traumatized after the last 2 years but right now, it's probably better than average (most third pairs kind of suck). As long as Sully reduces their TOI and role, I think we'll be fine. However, an injury on the right side is going to suck.

I also think our 4th line is going to be better than average. It's just that 3rd line that sticks out like a sore thumb. And again, an injury on the right side in the top 6 is going to suck.

Haha yeah that’s why I never mentioned to trade for him now. I don’t think other than werenski they got much at LD though haha. Disgruntled players don’t get the full haul. And every major trade I’m usually underwhelmed once it happens tbh. You never know.

That could happen if Colorado doesn't win a cup in the next three years. Slight chance but possible. But if they do win we can completely throw that out.

Yea that's the thing, just try it! You aren't gonna get him if you don't throw something at them. You can't win at anything if you are not playing the game.

Yeah, even if COL doesn't win a cup by the time Mac's contract is up doesn't mean their window is gone. Not even a little. COL is in position to be a contender for a very long time.

Pens cancel the rest of camp due to possible covid exposure.
