I don't recall any moment in my adult life where I have been less interested in the start of a Sabres season than I am right now.

I don't know if it's Covid, if it's the 10 month off from playing, the Bills playing in the playoffs, or the fact that I have zero faith in that organization I am just so meh about this team right now.

- Stripes77

I actually take a good deal of solace in the fact that everyone everywhere thinks we're going to suck. It's like the 2019 NFL season when everyone was predicting the Jets would finish ahead of the Bills.

Maybe we'll suck, but there's no expectations. Idk, we'll find out in a couple days. I'm super pumped to see Hall and Eichel. Should be must see TV

Gary Bettman, on the NHL's impending financial hit: "The magnitude of the loss starts with a 'B.' We're out of the 'M' range and into the 'B."'

Gary Bettman and the owners doing us all a giant favor. Big deal.

(frank) Bettman and the owners who think they're performing some massive amount of good will.

What are the stakes of our bet ?

If I win, you have to write three sincere paragraphs on why Johan Larsson is the most under rated player in the NHL

If you win.... ?

You do know that is one of the last things I look at right?

Who cares that our #1 overall pick isn't being used to his strengths?

Who cares that our $9 million over paid 30 goal scorer is now on the 4th line?

Who cares that our new yes man GM didn't address the huge need to upgrade the goaltender?

Who cares that they overpaid Girgensons in money and term?

Who cares that they signed Cody Eakin to be a 3rd line center and he is AWFUL in his own end?

Who cares they will miss the playoffs for the 10th straight year?

- Stripes77

I love how in some of the points you hold the player responsible and where your agenda lies you don't.

You can find an excuses for the poor play of some but not others. I mean talk about overpaying a player in money and term, the poster child for that is Skinner.

With regard to using a player to his strengths has Risto been a #1 his whole time here? No, but not just this coach but all of them used him as a #1 with big minutes against top lines all the time.

I have no idea how Cody Eakin is going to do but the popular narrative is he sucks so he probably won't.

You conveniently left out the Hall signing, just the largest FA signing in the NHL this year which for a city and market like Buffalo is pretty good and to get him for nothing except a relatively cheap one year 8 million dollar contract even better.

Dahlin is one of the top scoring D before age 20 in the history of the NHL

I think this is a better team than last year. Would I have hoped they got a goalie which they apparently tried to do, sure. But, I am not despondent about it. In current life there are bigger fish to fry then if the Sabres make the playoffs. Sit back and let it play out before you judge.

(frank) bettman but I wouldn't have blamed the owners if they decided to shut it down. I for one am not in business to lose money. it still is a business after all. I guess I'm just a terrible person.

Bettman and the owners would have lost their shorts in a lawsuit by the PA if they tried to cancel the season.

All this amounts to is posturing to try to create goodwill as they roll out the cheapest "divisional" set up that amounts to 4 separate leagues which keeps a few extra dollars in their pocket to save on travel and lodging costs

Plus they can test-run uniform advertisements and come up with a completely justifiable excuse. Helmets first, pants second, jersey third.

They LARP the NBA so hard it's not even funny.

Ristolainen will be signing PTO’s and being traded every season when he’s 30 just like all the over rated scrub D men who are fan favorites of people who have no idea what they’re watching

He’s Dion Phanuef except always the bad Dion Phanuef.

And we’re just like those 2010-2017 Maple Leafs that miss the playoffs every year because they overplay bad players

I knew you would jump on that, like a Pavlov Dog. But, you are so often wrong and I am almost always right I like my odds. Also, he works out like crazy in the offseason so I think he'll be fine and have a fulfilling career be it here or somewhere else.

I was just about to add that the same thing.

We have had a dearth of talent around here so when we get a high draft pick, he MUST be good, because he’s a high draft pick. Circular reasoning.

Ty My- chara is a beast in the playoffs. TyMy is tall too so he will be the next Chara. Ty My is NOT Chara.

CoHo is a high draft pick. He must be good.

Zack Kassian - we need toughness after Miller gets trucked and no one steps up to Lucici. kickassian will be our version of Lucic.

nylander will be just like his brother.

Swedish Jesus is #1 so he will instantly be as good as that Detroit defenseman everyone creams over.

Middlingstats will be some other great player. I am an amateur scout and use my magic eightball to predict the future.

Kinda like how the Leafs went nuts over that guy that got waived today, luke Schenn or Kadri. First high draft pick in a while after trading away the future and sucking so he will be the savior.

That is who risto is. A off ice stronger in the gym Luke Schenn.

Imagine defending Ristolainen and bashing Sam Reinhart and thinking you're always right.

You do defend Ristolainen better than Ristolainen defends though, i'll give you that

This is ridiculous 😳😅😂

We currently have the #Lightning at $16,516,666 over the cap. In order to maximize their LTIR relief, they need to get as close to $16,975,000 as possible.

Waiving Schenn (-$800,000) and Johnson (-$1,075,000) today helps them get there.

Here's how:

https://twitter.com/CapFr.../1348740769029484550?s=19

$16,516,666 - ($800,000 + $1,075,000) = $14,641,666

$14,641,666 + Foote + 2 league min = $16,966,666

That would use all but $8,334 of their space AND it gets Cal Foote on the roster who has $500,000 in PB's which would give them flexibility with their LTI PB Pool.

The sad thing is Myers first two years were leaps and bounds better than any season Ristolainen has had.

He's legit never been good. He looked like he was gonna be good because he was a man at 18.

He's not Luke Schenn. It's funny how Sabres fans eat their own but lap up other team's junk, ahem, Jeff Skinner.

I wish the Sabres would trade Risto and he would be utilized right and Sabres fans would then be looking for a D who could eat minutes like him, have the mobility, and the physical side while he finds his niche on a new team. Many will be like, as they are now, how did we trade ROR!" They will be like that on a lesser scale with Risto. .
