The Sabres also have their fair share of players that also might need time to warm up?
- kingcong39

point taken, but overall they're not close to the overall age of the caps and they had a three-day head start

Hopefully everyone is rooting for Tage to have a strong season as it would provide the Sabres with tremendous cap value this season and going forward.

I said last year, the Sabres' success hinged on Mittelstadt, Olofsson and Thompson having good seasons. Unfortunately, they went 1 for 3.

Vogl's line predictions for the Athletic make sense if, as it looks, ralph is intent upon moving tage up and skinner down (again):

hall - jack - tage
olofsson - staal - skunk
reider - eakin - okposo
new whipping boy - lazer larry - cozens

Skinner should have no problem potting 7 or 8 goals playing on line 4 at 12:00 per night with a 13th F and a Rookie.
I do see the logic there!

i think it can work...jack and hall will do what they do regardless of who's on their wing and tage will be the beneficiary until he pirouettes his way down the lineup and possibly on to the taxi squad...

and once that happens there will be a shift in wingers...

imo, of course

- Michael Pachla

Agreed, in fact I wrote something similar last night that showed a number of changes.

i am interested to see if that samuelson guy was a wasted pick.. but we have like 28 D prospects.

Was surprised, he seemed to fit in during the scrimmage. Just the eye test, but I'm not so sure he's the lumbering brute with no skill that he's been touted as.

If tage has a break thru type season, he'll be wearing a kracken jersey next year. The longer he develops, the more upside....

Pretty good Skinner debate in the 10 o'clock hour of the instigators about Skinner. Peters and Biron taking Krueger's side and Rivet taking Skinner's side

They would protect him and expose others.

Girgensons, Eakin, Mitts get exposed before Thompson if Tage is a bonafide top 9 winger never mind top 6.

Do you think Ralph is just sticking to his guns that everyone must play well without the puck and defensively responsible, and as soon as Skinner shows he’s willing/able to do so he will jump back up in the lineup? (Has Ralph come out and said that Skinner is down the lineup because of his defensive effort, or does he just say he wants to spread the scoring out?) Does Ralph adamantly think if Skinner is going to be there long term he has to make a better all around player out of him, or could there be ulterior motives to make Skinner more willing to waive any trade limits?
It’s interesting that Quennville is doing pretty much the same thing to the PP specialist/defensively lax Yandle. Ekblad has been on PP1 while others were getting work on PP2. Yandle even spent the last couple of days skating with the second group (fringe players/taxi squad) at practice.

The only problem is if Hall goes the selfish way where he wants to be the show and do it all himself and doesn't bode well with eichel

Granted he didn't have that talent in the devil's so had to put it on himself and was exceptional during his MVP season, but there were also many times where you could see he tried to do too much or wanted to do it all himself and led to turnovers

If they work well together great but if they both want to run the show then that's where things can get dicey.....they'll get points but at what cost

Peters and Biron pretty specifically broke down what they think Skinner is and isn't doing. Basically they said he's waiting for the game to come to him rather than attacking or back checking - he's below the puck in the offensive zone waiting for a pass rather than attacking or back checking. Floating and cherry picking basically. Biron likened it to playing with Gaborik under Torts which didn't go well. Rivet basically said he didn't come here to play with the Lazars and Sobotkas of the world.

It was informative to hear specifics rather than generic coach speak.

Skinner wants to play the game in the way that got him $9m and Krueger wants him to change. Who blinks first will be interesting

Hall will be put on his own line away from Eichel and quickly if what you outlined above happens.

It's a non-issue.
