I think Quinn will get the 9game tryout & then we’ll decide what to do with him

Is the CHL gonna play this year?
Have they figured out where these guys who don’t make their NHL teams are gonna play?

- jdfitz77

Yeah they can play in the AHL until there season starts

We're still missing 1 piece to the #Sabres puzzle, but it would appear as though both Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn have made the 23-man roster.

Casey Mittelstadt was placed on their Taxi Squad along with

Will Borgen
Rasmus Asplund
Brandon Davidson
Jonas Johansson

While I’m thinking the Quinn thing through one thought did pop into my head.

I believe Krueger said the taxi squad was going to practice separate from the active roster. So, putting Quinn on the roster allows him to practice with the Sabres and be around them.

Missing piece is Riley Sheahan is currently on the Active Non-Roster list.

Meaning Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn have indeed made the team.

#Sabres have a projected salary cap of $81,448,334, leaving the club with only $51,666 in cap space.

It's 6, not 9, due to the shortened season.

that's most excellent...

i believe they can really manage their overall cap using the taxi squad to manage their day-to-day cap...

can anyone expound on that?

Anyone on the practice squad would count towards our cap the same as if they were sent down to Rochester

however, i believe for cap-purposes, those on the taxi squad are paid their rochseter salary if on a two-way deal

edit: all five on the taxi squad are on two-way deals

Guys on 2 way deals don’t generally have a high enough nhl salary that it matters

Seems like you’re overthinking this

that's fine...i'm not a capologist but i remember reading somewhere that it does matter

https://theathletic.com/2...lways%20on%20the%20roster.

"If the 21st, 22nd and 23rd players on rosters are all on a taxi squad instead of the NHL roster, and they’re on two-way contracts (which carry a lower salary in the minors), the cap savings could in extreme cases add up to more than $3 million per team."

There's a lot of nuance, which is why I made the 10,000 words joke. Especially when it comes to the accumulation of cap space topic.

For Cap Purposes:
The taxi squad is essentially Rochester

So Mittelstadt for example, costs our cap nothing,
just like if he were sent to Rochester

Right.... and that would be exactly the same Cap hit as if there was no taxi squad, and we only had 20players on our roster & everyone else was sent to Rochester

The league is going to have a grand time trying to keep teams from attempting to game the system.

It doesn’t matter

The only guys who count towards our Cap Hit are the guys on the active roster- whether that’s 20guys, or 23guys, or whatever number

***Unless... a guy like Okposo was put on the taxi squad- then he’d count roughly 5mil against our Cap instead of 6mil (just like if we sent him to Rochester)

But all the guys below that (roughly) $1mil threshold will not count against our Cap when on the taxi squad, just like they wouldn’t if sent down to Rochester

Maybe I’m not doing a good job explaining this?

the taxi squad doesn't count against the cap, so if you're 21st, 22nd, and 23rd players are on the taxi squad, the cap-hit for that game is only the 20 players dressed, if i red it correctly

Off topic, but Cowherd confirmed on his show (or rather Joy Taylor did) that he and Nick Wright canceled the Pinto Ron bet. Such a shame.
